Evaluation of Contrast Sensitivity, Chromatic Vision, and Reading Ability in Patients with Primary Open Angle Glaucoma

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmology, 2016
Purpose. To compare contrast sensitivity, acquired color vision deficiency, and reading ability in patients with glaucoma at different stages of the disease and to establish correlations between visual field parameters and visual function scores. Methods.

Near‐Infrared Light‐Programmable Negative Differential Transconductance in Organic Electrochemical Transistors for Reconfigurable Logic

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Organic electrochemical transistors based on a Near‐Infrared (NIR)‐responsive polymer p(C4DPP‐T) and iodide electrolyte exhibit optically programmable negative differential transconductance. NIR illumination triggers an iodine‐mediated redox process, enabling a transition from binary to ternary conductance states within a single‐layer device.

Acuity and contrast sensivity of infant vision

open access: yesNature, 1974
IF we are to study the development of form and space perception in man, it is necessary to know something of the basic visual capabilities of the developing human infant. There have been a number of investigations of visual acuity in the first few months of life.

Nano‐ and Micro‐Sized Solid Materials Used as Antiviral Agents

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Due to the rise of viral infections in humans and possible viral outbreaks, the use of nano‐ or micro‐sized materials as antiviral agents is rapidly increasing. This review explores their antiviral properties against RNA and DNA viruses, either as a prevention or a treatment tool, by delving into their mechanisms of action and how to properly assess ...

The empirical characteristics of human pattern vision defy theoretically-driven expectations.

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology, 2018
Contrast is the most fundamental property of images. Consequently, any comprehensive model of biological vision must incorporate this attribute and provide a veritable description of its impact on visual perception.

Processing of Synthetic Aperture Radar Images by the Boundary Contour System and Feature Contour System [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
An improved Boundary Contour System (BCS) and Feature Contour System (FCS) neural network model of preattentive vision is applied to two large images containing range data gathered by a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) sensor.

xUnit: Learning a Spatial Activation Function for Efficient Image Restoration

open access: yes, 2018
In recent years, deep neural networks (DNNs) achieved unprecedented performance in many low-level vision tasks. However, state-of-the-art results are typically achieved by very deep networks, which can reach tens of layers with tens of millions of ...

Liquid Phase Transmission Electron Microscopy: A Window into the Early Stages of Complex Material Formation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid‐phase transmission electron microscopy enables direct observation of nucleation and growth processes in solution. This review is dedicated to the remembrance of Helmut Cölfen and highlights recent studies on complex materials—oxides, biominerals, organic–inorganic crystals—which were central to his research activity. It summarizes key milestones,
