Flow‐based immunomagnetic enrichment of circulating tumor cells from diagnostic leukapheresis product

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The number of circulating tumor cells obtained from prostate cancer patients was increased approximately 5‐fold compared to regular CellSearch when processing 2 mL diagnostic leukapheresis material aliquots and increased by 44‐fold when processing 20 mL DLA aliquots using the flow enrichment target capture Halbach‐array.

Maximum-Hands-Off Control and L1 Optimality [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
In this article, we propose a new paradigm of control, called a maximum-hands-off control. A hands-off control is defined as a control that has a much shorter support than the horizon length. The maximum-hands-off control is the minimum-support (or sparsest) control among all admissible controls.

Unlocking the potential of tumor‐derived DNA in urine for cancer detection: methodological challenges and opportunities

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Urine is a rich source of biomarkers for cancer detection. Tumor‐derived material is released into the bloodstream and transported to the urine. Urine can easily be collected from individuals, allowing non‐invasive cancer detection. This review discusses the rationale behind urine‐based cancer detection and its potential for cancer diagnostics ...

The minimal control time for the exact controllability by internal controls of 1D linear hyperbolic balance laws [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
In this article we study the internal controllability of 1D linear hyperbolic balance laws when the number of controls is equal to the number of state variables. The controls are supported in space in an arbitrary open subset. Our main result is a complete characterization of the minimal control time for the exact controllability property.

Hyperbolic Chain Control Sets on Flag Manifolds [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
In this paper we study the chain control sets of right-invariant control systems on the flag manifolds of a non-compact semisimple Lie group. We prove that each chain control set is partially (skew-) hyperbolic over the associated control flow. Moreover, we characterize those chain control sets that are uniformly (skew-) hyperbolic in terms of the flag

Subpar reporting of pre‐analytical variables in RNA‐focused blood plasma studies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical variables strongly influence the analysis of extracellular RNA (cell‐free RNA; exRNA) derived from blood plasma. Their reporting is essential to allow interpretation and replication of results. By evaluating 200 exRNA studies, we pinpoint a lack of reporting pre‐analytical variables associated with blood collection, plasma preparation ...

Hands-Off Control as Green Control [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
In this article, we introduce a new paradigm of control, called hands-off control, which can save energy and reduce CO2 emissions in control systems. A hands-off control is defined as a control that has a much shorter support than the horizon length.
