CerM and Its Antagonist CerN Are New Components of the Quorum Sensing System in Cereibacter sphaeroides, Signaling to the CckA/ChpT/CtrA System

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 13, Issue 6, December 2024.
The quorum sensing (QS) system of Cereibacter sphaeroides includes six LuxR homologs and one acylhomoserine lactone synthase homolog. Two LuxR homologs, CerM and CerN, are involved in regulating the expression of ctrA, which is part of the CckA/ChpT/CtrA two‐component system that controls flagellar motility.

Using comparative extinction risk analysis to prioritize the IUCN Red List reassessments of amphibians

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 38, Issue 6, December 2024.
Abstract Assessing the extinction risk of species based on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List (RL) is key to guiding conservation policies and reducing biodiversity loss. This process is resource demanding, however, and requires continuous updating, which becomes increasingly difficult as new species are added to the RL.

Do sexual differences in life strategies make male lizards more susceptible to parasite infection?

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, Volume 93, Issue 9, Page 1338-1350, September 2024.
Sexual dimorphism in coadaptive host–parasite relationships are poorly understand. The comparative nature of the presented studied as well as the generalisation of the results for the geographic region sampled makes this study of general interest of ecologists, evolutionary biologists, physiologist and parasitologist, among others.

The expansion of the Australian tortoise beetle Trachymela sloanei (Chrysomelidae: Chrysomelinae, Chrysomelini, Paropsina) in Spain: Using human‐made shelters for an early detection strategy Expansión del escarabajo tortuga australiano Trachymela sloanei (Chrysomelidae: Chrysomelinae, Chrysomelini, Paropsina) en España: uso de estructuras artificiales como estrategia de detección temprana

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, Volume 26, Issue 3, Page 401-409, August 2024.
Abstract Invasive alien species are one main driver of biodiversity loss and can cause severe economic costs. Effective management of such species requires early detection of colonising individuals, but this is often hampered by biological or economic constraints.

Global mismatches between threat mapping research effort and the potential of threat abatement actions to reduce extinction risk

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 38, Issue 4, August 2024.
Abstract Threat mapping is a necessary tool for identifying and abating direct threats to species in the ongoing extinction crisis. There are known gaps in the threat mapping literature for particular threats and geographic locations, and it remains unclear if the distribution of research effort is appropriately targeted relative to conservation need ...
