Genomic Insights Into Host Shifts Between Plasmodium vivax and Plasmodium simium in Latin America

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications, Volume 19, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Malaria in Latin America is largely caused by Plasmodium vivax, but the closely related monkey parasite Plasmodium simium has recently been observed in humans, thus raising new public health concerns. By screening 719 monkey samples from five Latin America countries, we identified 23 Plasmodium‐positives.

Biochemical Responses of Anopheles spp. Larvae to a Novel Brazilian BR101 Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis Formulation: Oxidative Stress, Detoxification Enzymes, and Safety for Nontarget Notonectidae and Gerridae Aquatic Insects

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 2, February 2026.
Bti BR101 exhibits strong larvicidal activity against Anopheles larvae spp., with dose‐dependent mortality and LC50 of 3.13 µg/mL. Bti increases ROS, lipid and protein oxidation, and activates antioxidant enzymes (SOD, CAT, GPx) and detoxification pathways (MFO and esterases), indicating moderate oxidative stress.

Evaluation of organophosphorus and synthetic pyrethroid insecticides against six vector mosquitoe species

open access: yesRevista de Saúde Pública, 1993
Three organophosphorus compounds- malathion, folithion and temephos- and two synthetic pyrethroids- alphamethrin and deltamethrin- were used for monitoring the susceptibility status of larvae and adults of six vector mosquitoe species: Culex ...

Resting behaviour as a target for innovative mosquito control strategies

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 9, Page 1890-1905, September 2025.
Abstract This work reviews and discusses how a deeper knowledge of mosquito time‐allocation, particularly resting periods, can enhance the effectiveness and deployment of classical vector control tools. As more high‐resolution data are gathered by novel tracking devices, follow‐up questions investigating mosquito behaviour are likely to arise ...

Abundance, Diversity and Phenology of Mosquito Larvae in a Highly Anthropized Wetland: Health and Management Implications of Gándaras de Budiño (NW Spain)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 7, July 2025.
The natural and anthropized wetland of Gándaras de Budiño (Galicia, Spain) hosts a great number of mosquito species. Culex pipiens s.l. and Culex torrentium pose an emerging risk for West Nile virus transmission. The temporary and polluted waters, as well as the summer and spring seasons, favor the larval proliferation of these vectors.

Aedes aegypti control in breeding sites through an insecticidal coating with dual effect: Laboratory trials and safety assessment Control de Aedes aegypti en los sitios de cría mediante un recubrimiento insecticida de efecto dual: ensayos de laboratorio y evaluación de la seguridad

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, Volume 39, Issue 2, Page 252-265, June 2025.
Ground water tanks are known to be preferred Aedes aegypti oviposition places. An insecticidal coating‐IC (alphacypermethrin‐ACM + pyriproxyfen‐PPF), applied to the interior walls of tanks, was effective against mosquitoes and larvae. With reference Ae.
