Transition to finger convection in double-diffusive convection [PDF]

open access: yesPhysics of Fluids, 2014
Finger convection is observed experimentally in an electrodeposition cell in which a destabilizing gradient of copper ions is maintained against a stabilizing temperature gradient. This double-diffusive system shows finger convection even if the total density stratification is unstable.

A benchmark study on mantle convection in a 3‐D spherical shell using CitcomS [PDF]

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2008
As high-performance computing facilities and sophisticated modeling software become available, modeling mantle convection in a three-dimensional (3-D) spherical shell geometry with realistic physical parameters and processes becomes increasingly feasible.

Sub-mesoscale observations of convective cold pools with a dense station network in Hamburg, Germany [PDF]

open access: yesEarth System Science Data, 2022
From June to August 2020, an observational network of 103 meteorological ground-based stations covered the greater area (50 km × 35 km) of Hamburg (Germany) as part of the Field Experiment on Sub-mesoscale Spatio-Temporal variability at Hanseatic city ...

Mesoscale cellular convection: is it convection? [PDF]

open access: yesTellus A: Dynamic Meteorology and Oceanography, 1985
The three convective instability models that aim to account for the broad aspect ratio of mesoscale cellular convection (MCC) are compared with a simple analytical version of the mesoscale entrainment instability (MEI) model proposed by Fiedler (1984). The inadequacies of the convective models are demonstrated.

Convection On the Edge [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, 2019
AbstractDeep convection over tropical oceans often appears intensified at the edge of convectively active regions, both in idealized studies and in observations. This edge intensification of convection is studied in detail here, using the steady state of a radiative‐convective equilibrium study, marked by a single convective cluster with deep ...

Bistable fully developed mixed convection flow with viscous dissipation in a vertical channel [PDF]

open access: yesRoyal Society Open Science, 2018
It is shown that unstable dual solutions in fully developed mixed convection flow in a vertical channel disappear in the presence of relatively strong thermal radiation. In this case, we have a unique stable flow at each pressure gradient.

On the Detectability of Large-Scale Flows by Asteroseismology

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2020
Large-scale convective motions are an integral part of stellar interior dynamics and might play a relevant role in stellar dynamo processes. However, they are difficult to detect or characterize.

On the deep seated faults in the Northern Caucasus

open access: yesЛитосфера, 2020
Research subject. The paper describes large tectonic zones in the North Caucasus, which can be classified as deep faults according to a number of features. Among these formations are the Ancient axial fault zone earlier described by G.D. Azh-girei, which
