Transition to finger convection in double-diffusive convection [PDF]
Finger convection is observed experimentally in an electrodeposition cell in which a destabilizing gradient of copper ions is maintained against a stabilizing temperature gradient. This double-diffusive system shows finger convection even if the total density stratification is unstable.

Solar Surface Convection [PDF]
We review the properties of solar convection that are directly observable at the solar surface, and discuss the relevant underlying physics, concentrating mostly on a range of depths from the temperature minimum down to about 20 Mm below the visible ...

Sub-mesoscale observations of convective cold pools with a dense station network in Hamburg, Germany [PDF]
From June to August 2020, an observational network of 103 meteorological ground-based stations covered the greater area (50 km × 35 km) of Hamburg (Germany) as part of the Field Experiment on Sub-mesoscale Spatio-Temporal variability at Hanseatic city ...

Mesoscale cellular convection: is it convection? [PDF]
The three convective instability models that aim to account for the broad aspect ratio of mesoscale cellular convection (MCC) are compared with a simple analytical version of the mesoscale entrainment instability (MEI) model proposed by Fiedler (1984). The inadequacies of the convective models are demonstrated.

AbstractDeep convection over tropical oceans often appears intensified at the edge of convectively active regions, both in idealized studies and in observations. This edge intensification of convection is studied in detail here, using the steady state of a radiative‐convective equilibrium study, marked by a single convective cluster with deep ...

Effect of subcritical excitation of oscillations in stochastic systems with time delay. Part II. Control of fluid equilibrium [PDF]
The problem of active control of the mechanical equilibrium of an inhomogeneously heated fluid in a thermosyphon is studied theoretically and experimentally. The control is performed by using a feedback subsystem which inhibits convection by changing the

Influence of random malignant cell motility on growing tumor front stability [PDF]
Chemotaxis plays an important role in morphogenesis and processes of structure formation in nature. Both unicellular organisms and single cells in tissue demonstrate this property. In vitro experiments show that many types of transformed cell, especially

Tropical Cirrus in Global Storm‐Resolving Models: 1. Role of Deep Convection
Pervasive cirrus clouds in the upper troposphere and tropical tropopause layer (TTL) influence the climate by altering the top‐of‐atmosphere radiation balance and stratospheric water vapor budget.

Mathematical simulation of vortex motion in the astrophysical objects on the basis of the gas-dynamic model [PDF]
The application of a conservative numerical method of fluxes is examined for studying the vortex structures in the massive, fast-turned compact astrophysical objects, which are in self-gravity conditions.
