Combined conduction and natural convection cooling of offshore power cables in porous sea soil [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The power that can be carried by offshore power cables is often restricted by the temperature limit of the materials inside the cable. It is therefore essential to predict the heat transfer behavior of the dissipated power from the cable to the ...

3D Bioinspired Hair‐Based Solar Evaporator for Efficient Water Harvesting

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A bio‐derived solar evaporator inspired by blackbody radiation is developed using human hair waste. The vertically aligned hair structure enables broadband light absorption, efficient thermal localization, and rapid water transport, achieving high evaporation rates and stable desalination performance.

Colloidal Opaline Composites as Throughput‐Scalable, Fully Transparent, and Color‐Tunable Radiative Cooling Exterior Films for Outdoor Photovoltaics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Particular thermal metamaterials are widely used as daytime radiative coolers merely by embedding thermally emissive nanoparticles (NPs) in liquid resins to form scalable, yet highly efficient cooling films in a cost‐effective way. However, randomly dispersed NPs, prevalently used thus far, cause strong scattering, limiting NP content and cooling ...

Fast‐Responding O2 Gas Sensor Based on Luminescent Europium Metal‐Organic Frameworks (MOF‐76)

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Luminescent MOF‐76 materials based on Eu(III) and mixed Eu(III)/Y(III) show rapid and reversible changes in emission intensity in response to O2 with very short response times. The effect is based on triplet quenching of the linker ligands that act as photosensitizers. Average emission lifetimes of a few milliseconds turn out to be mostly unaffected by

Preliminary Results of Heat Transfer from a Stationary and Rotating Ellipsoidal Spinner [PDF]

open access: yes
Convective heat-transfer coefficients in dry air were obtained for an ellipsoidal spinner of 30-inch maximum diameter for both stationary and rotating operation over a range of conditions including airspeeds up to 275 miles per hour, rotational speeds up

Supramolecular Liquid Crystal Elastomer Adhesives: Role of Internal Damping and Hydrogen Bonding

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The adhesion strength can be significantly enhanced through the molecular design of supramolecular liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs) that combine high internal damping from mesogen reorientation with abundant hydrogen‐bonding moieties. Solvent vapor annealing enables reversible, non‐thermal control of adhesion, offering potential for heat‐sensitive ...
