Modelling herbicide distribution through soil profiles under conventional tillage and non-tillage

open access: yesScience of The Total Environment
Conservation agricultural practices based on mulching and herbicides use are becoming more widespread. However, they cannot be simulated with pesticide fate models used for risk assessment before placing pesticides on the European market. Thus, this work sought to assess and compare the performance of PRZM and MACRO models to replicate the moisture ...

Charting the Path to Increased Oil Palm Output in Ghana Beyond Area Expansion: Technology or Managerial Capacity — Which Leads the Way?

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study sets out to investigate the prospects for raising oil palm output in sub‐Saharan Africa, particularly Ghana, without further expansion of cropland. Given global concerns about oil palm's role in deforestation and land use change, the focus is on enhancing productivity on existing farmlands.

The effects of agronomic practices on soil greenhouse gas emissions in maize production systems in Buea, Cameroon

open access: yesFrontiers in Soil Science
With a specific focus on zero tillage and organic fertilization, this study examines the effects of agronomic practices on soil greenhouse gas (GHGs—CO2, N2O, and CH4) emissions, global warming potential (GWP), maize productivity and greenhouse gas ...

Alternative Policy Designs to Help Farmers Select Profitable Conservation Practices

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Voluntary private carbon initiatives (VPCIs) promote the implementation of agricultural conservation practices that mitigate emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs) via financial incentives to participating farmers. Simultaneously, an array of public policies supports the adoption of conservation practices through technical and financial ...

Small‐Scale Magnetic Peristaltic Soft Robot With Mobility and Transport Capabilities

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This study introduces a miniature, untethered soft magnetic microrobot with peristaltic capabilities for both locomotion and cargo transport. Eight helically magnetized elastomeric strips deform under rotating fields (10–80 mT, 1–5 Hz), enabling movement across rods and lumina at up to 4.1 body lengths min‐¹.
