Testing the convergence hypothesis for Greece

Managerial and Decision Economics, 1997
The question of whether there is a tendency for regional convergence has become a central topic for economic research. This paper considers the issue of convergence across Greek regions, following the theoretical basis of the neoclassical model of economic growth.

An empirical investigation of the financialization convergence hypothesis

Review of International Political Economy, 2017
Claims of global homogenization towards a singular model of finance capitalism constitute a “financialization convergence hypothesis” that has not been subject to systematic empirical scrutiny.

The Business Convergence Hypothesis

2008
Many people lament the fact that all high streets seem alike. Even the new malls give one dramatic deja vu. Same shops, same products, same prices.

Growth and the pollution convergence hypothesis: a nonparametric approach [PDF]

open access: possible, 2009
The pollution-convergence hypothesis is formalized in a neoclassical growth model with optimal emissions reduction: pollution growth rates are positively correlated with output growth (scale effect) but negatively correlated with emission levels (defensive effect).

Contextualism and Norton’s Convergence Hypothesis

Environmental Ethics, 1995
Toward Unity among Environmentalists is Bryan Norton’s most developed effort to surmount the frequently intractable debate between anthropocentrists and nonanthropocentrists. Norton argues that the basic axiological differences between the two positions have become irrelevant at the level of policy formation.

Growth Theories and Convergence Hypothesis

2020
In ancient Greek, the word theorein and its connected noun theoria link to observation, consideration and looking more closely at the subject matter; they simply lead to scientific contemplation and seeking truth. Today, in the context of highly specialized fields of science, seeking the eternal truth is not at stake.

Tests of the "convergence hypothesis" : a critical note [PDF]

open access: possible, 1992
I argue in this paper that the `speed of convergence' estimated in recent works on `convergence' does not capture `actual' convergence towards a steady state, but rather conditional dynamics towards a moving target. Although this conditional convergence can be taken to imply that there are decreasing returns to such storable assets as physical and ...

Nonparametric Hypothesis Testing with Parametric Rates of Convergence

International Economic Review, 1991
Nonparametric estimators are frequently criticized for their poor performance in small samples. In this paper, the author considers using kernel methods for the estimation of the expected derivatives of a regression function. The proposed estimators are shown to be asymptotically normal and n-consistent.
