Concentration inequalities of the cross-validation estimator for Empirical Risk Minimiser [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2010
In this article, we derive concentration inequalities for the cross-validation estimate of the generalization error for empirical risk minimizers. In the general setting, we prove sanity-check bounds in the spirit of \cite{KR99} \textquotedblleft\textit{bounds showing that the worst-case error of this estimate is not much worse that of training error ...

Elastic‐Wave Propagation in Chiral Metamaterials: A Couple‐Stress Theory Perspective

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The intrinsic chirality of chiral metamaterials renders an effective medium based on the classical continuum theory ineffective for predicting their acoustic activity. This limitation is addressed in the present study by employing augmented asymptotic homogenization to derive a couple‐stress‐based effective medium, enabling accurate predictions in the ...

Beyond Order: Perspectives on Leveraging Machine Learning for Disordered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article explores how machine learning (ML) revolutionizes the study and design of disordered materials by uncovering hidden patterns, predicting properties, and optimizing multiscale structures. It highlights key advancements, including generative models, graph neural networks, and hybrid ML‐physics methods, addressing challenges like data ...

The Classical Theorems of Measure Theory in connection with the Statistical convergence and some remarks on Steinhaus' Theorem [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
We study Steinhaus' theorem regarding statistical limits of measurable real valued functions and we examine the validity of the classical theorems of Measure Theory for statistical convergences.

Effects of Creep in Titanium at Room Temperature during Tensile and Profilometry‐Based Indentation Plastometry Testing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article concerns room temperature tensile testing, with a range of (nominal) strain rates, of three titanium alloys. Stress–strain curves are analyzed to obtain creep characteristics. Profilometry‐based indentation plastometry testing is also covered, using different penetration velocities, and correlations established with tensile data.

When helping hurts: validating a measure of compulsive helping and exploring potential correlates

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology
IntroductionThis cross-sectional study proposes and validates a new measure of compulsive helping: helping which harms the helper.MethodsEmerging Adults (N = 438; Mage = 20.29, SD = 1.04, 51.71% Female) reported on compulsive helping. Confirmatory factor

Cross-sectional validity and specificity of comprehensive measurement in lymphedema and lipedema of the lower extremity: a comparison of five outcome instruments

open access: yesHealth and Quality of Life Outcomes, 2020
Background Literature on the validity of outcome measurement in lymphedema and lipedema is very sparse. This study aimed to examine the convergent, divergent and discriminant validity of a set of 5 instruments in both conditions.

Local spectral convergence in $RCD^*(K,N)$ spaces [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
In this note we give necessary and sufficient conditions for the validity of the local spectral convergence, in balls, on the $RCD^*$-setting.

Static Recrystallization Simulation of Interstitial Free‐Steel by Coupling Multi‐Phase‐Field and Crystal Plasticity Model Considering Dislocation Density Distribution

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study models static recrystallization in interstitial free‐steel using coupled crystal plasticity and phase‐field simulations. The method directly links heterogeneous dislocation density to nucleation site prediction, eliminating reliance on empirical assumptions.
