Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

Religious Conversion, Transformative Experience, and Disagreement [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Religious conversion gives rise to disagreement with one’s former self and with family and friends. Because religious conversion is personally and epistemically transformative, it is difficult to judge whether a former epistemic peer is still one’s ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Benchmarking Fast-to-Alfven Mode Conversion in a Cold MHD Plasma

open access: yes, 2011
Alfv\'en waves may be generated via mode conversion from fast magneto-acoustic waves near their reflection level in the solar atmosphere, with implications both for coronal oscillations and for active region helio-seismology.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

POTENCIAL DE LA TECNOLOGÍA "GAS TO LIQUIDS GTL" EN COLOMBIA Potential of the "gas to liquids-GTL" technology in Colombia

open access: yesCT&F Ciencia, Tecnología & Futuro, 2005
El gas natural posee un gran potencial por las grandes reservas que existen a nivel mundial en la actualidad y puesto que es una fuente de energía más limpia que el petróleo pero, con la desventaja que requiere de altos costos para su transporte.

An integrated microring circuit design for optoelectronic transformer applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The on-chip scale circuit of the optoelectronic transformer is designed and manipulated using the microring resonator system. By using the monochromatic input light source, the electro-optic signals can be generated and functioned as the step up and down

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

A Polish Composer of Jewish Descent: in Interwar Lwów. Reflections on the National and Religious Identity of Józef Koffler

open access: yesMusicology Today
Józef Koffler (born 1896 in Stryj, died 1943/1944) has so far usually been perceived as a Polish composer of Jewish origin. He was a composer and professor at the PTM Conservatory of Music in Polish Lwów (now Lviv, Ukraine) in the years 1924–1939.
