A unified analytical framework for Mössbauer synchrotron sources
We present a unified analytical framework for Mössbauer synchrotron and X‐ray free‐electron laser sources that provides exact, rotationally invariant expressions for resonance energies and transition probabilities in mixed magnetic dipole–electric quadrupole interactions without Hamiltonian diagonalization.

Convex cones, assessment functions, balanced attributes
We investigate a class of polyhedral convex cones, with $R^k_+$ (the nonegative orthant in $\mathbb{R}^k$) as a special case. We start with the observation that for convex cones contained in $\mathbb{R}^k$, the respective cone efficiency is inconsistent ...

Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Paleontological data provide information on natural environments prior to human influence, which are useful for tracking changes in ecosystem functioning through time. During the Late Pleistocene, about 10% of terrestrial mammalian species were extinct in South America.

Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Xylem anatomy underpins the capacity of trees to transport water while avoiding hydraulic failure, shaping species performance and resilience to climate change. However, the specific ways anatomical traits underpin hydraulic trade‐offs in tropical forests remain debated.

Updated Chorotypes of Terrestrial Vertebrates Shed New Light on Zoogeographical Regions in China
Chorotype represents a fundamental concept for identifying groups of species that share similar distribution patterns. However, the last comprehensive revision of animal chorotypes in China was performed more than a decade ago. Here, we update the chorotype classifications for 1040 species and propose an updated zoogeographical regionalization scheme ...

The transition of cetaceans from a terrestrial to an aquatic environment involved a crucial sensory adaptation to environments with limited visibility. Vibrissae, important mechanoreceptors, undergo an ontogenetic transformation in odontocetes. This research describes the histomorphology of vibrissae and crypts at different developmental stages ...

Convex sets, convex cones, affine spaces and affine cones
After introducing the concepts of a convex set, an affine space resp. a convex cone as subcases and last not least an affine cone as common subsubcase in an axiomatic manner by requiring the closedness against corresponding combination maps the author considers maps \(f:X\to Y\) between such sets \(X,Y\). He defines a map \(f\) between convex sets as a

Regularized reduced rank regression for mixed predictor and response variables
Abstract In this paper, we introduce the Generalized Mixed Regularized Reduced Rank Regression model (GMR4), an extension of the GMR3 model designed to improve performance in high‐dimensional settings. GMR3 is a regression method for a mix of numeric, binary and ordinal response variables, while also allowing for mixed‐type predictors through optimal ...

Abstract While semi‐analytical boundary handling techniques have proven effective for modeling particle‐based fluid‐solid interactions, they can become unstable when applied to mesh boundaries undergoing dynamic motion or featuring complex, sharp geometries.
