Fuzzy Clustering Using the Convex Hull as Geometrical Model

open access: yesAdvances in Fuzzy Systems, 2015
A new approach to fuzzy clustering is proposed in this paper. It aims to relax some constraints imposed by known algorithms using a generalized geometrical model for clusters that is based on the convex hull computation.

Is cranial anatomy indicative of fossoriality? A case study of the mammaliaform Hadrocodium wui

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Determining the ecology of fossil species presents considerable challenges due to the often fragmentary preservation of specimens. The mammaliaform Hadrocodium wui from the Jurassic of China is known only from the cranium and mandible but may have had a fossorial lifestyle.

A plane 1.88-spanner for points in convex position

open access: yesJournal of Computational Geometry, 2016
Let $S$ be a set of $n$ points in the plane that is in convex position. For a real number $t>1$, we say that a point $p$ in $S$ is $t$-good if for every point $q$ of $S$, the shortest-path distance between $p$ and $q$ along the boundary of the convex ...

“Visiting scientist effect”? Exploring the impact of time‐lags in the digitization of 2D landmark data

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Measurement error (ME) in geometric morphometrics has been the subject of countless articles, but none specific to the effect of time lags on landmark digitization error. Yet, especially for visiting scientists working on museum collections, it is not uncommon to collect data in multiple rounds, with interruptions of weeks or years. To explore

On Convex Hull of Orthogonal Scalar Spectral Functions of a Carleman Operator

open access: yesBoletim da Sociedade Paranaense de Matemática, 2008
In this paper we describe the closed convex hull of orthogonal resolvents of an abstract symmetric operator of defect indices (1; 1), then we study the convex hull of orthogonal spectral functions of a Carleman operator in the Hilbert space L^2(X;mu).

Towards the computation of the convex hull of a configuration from its corresponding separating matrix

open access: yes, 2007
In this paper, we cope with the following problem: compute the size of the convex hull of a configuration C, where the given data is the number of separating lines between any two points of the configuration (where the lines are generated by pairs of ...

Morphology and paleoecology of a hybodontiform with serrated teeth, Priohybodus arambourgi, from the Late Jurassic of northeastern Brazil

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Hybodontiformes was a diverse, successful, and important group of shark‐like chondrichthyans known from a variety of ecosystems. Some representatives of the order had a wide palaeogeographic distribution, as is the case with Priohybodus arambourgi. With a multicuspidate crown, P. arambourgi was the first hybodontiform to develop fully serrated

Convex hulls of bounded curvature

open access: yes, 1996
In this paper, we consider the problem of computing a convex hull of bounded curvature of a set S of points in the plane, i.e., a set containing S and whose boundary is a curve of bounded curvature of minimal length. We prove that, if the radius of the smallest disk that contains S is greater than 1, such a hull is unique.
