Freshwater fish functional diversity shows diverse responses to human activities, but consistently declines in the tropics

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Freshwater environments are intertwined with human activities and the consequence has been environmental degradation and biodiversity loss. Fish provide key ecological and economic benefits, and fish abundance and diversity can be affected by human activities resulting in functional diversity (FD) changes that might scale up to ecosystem impacts ...

Computational Fluid Dynamics Simulation and Quantification of Solar Greenhouse Temperature Based on Real Canopy Structure

open access: yesAgronomy
The temperature distribution of the cucumber canopy in an energy-saving solar greenhouse was simulated in this study. The canopy temperature data of autumn and winter cucumber were collected using temperature sensors, and the spatial heterogeneity of ...

Novel three‐dimensional ECG algorithm for reliable screening for cardiac amyloidosis

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
The present manuscript describes the derivation and validation of an algorithm for screening of cardiac amyloidosis using 3‐dimensional ECG. The algorithm is based on a ECG vector loop, acquired over the duration of 15 seconds using 4 electrodes. With this easy to perform method, we describe a high diagnostic accuracy for the detection of cardiac ...

Nearest convex hull classification [PDF]

open access: yes
Consider the classification task of assigning a test object toone of two or more possible groups, or classes. An intuitive way to proceedis to assign the object to that class, to which the distance is minimal.

Potassium‐Dependent Coupling of Retinal Astrocyte Light Response to Müller Glia

open access: yesGlia, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Astrocytes throughout the central nervous system mediate a variety of functions to support proper tissue physiology, including the regulation of blood flow and providing metabolic support to neurons. There is also growing appreciation for their role in directly modulating neuronal excitability and information transfer.

LAX phases: A family of novel stable layered materials, informatics‐based discovery

open access: yesInfoMat, EarlyView.
This research presents LAX phases, innovative layered materials from late transition metals, as alternatives to MAX phases. Using crystal structure prediction and machine learning, we identified 207 stable LAX systems with superior mechanical properties. These findings open pathways for LXene synthesis, promising advancements in catalysis and materials

Liberalization of animal genetic resources trade and local animal productivity outcomes: A natural experiment

open access: yesJournal of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association, Volume 4, Issue 1, Page 88-101, March 2025.
Abstract We assess the effects of trade liberalization in animal genetic resources on farm‐level productivity using a natural experiment on the Island of Jersey. For over 200 years, Jersey banned the import of bovine animals and semen to preserve breed purity. In 2008, the ban was lifted, allowing the import of Jersey‐certified sires and semen.

A Sharper Ramsey Theorem for Constrained Drawings

open access: yesJournal of Graph Theory, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Given a graph G $G$ and a collection C ${\mathscr{C}}$ of subsets of Rd ${{\mathbb{R}}}^{d}$ indexed by the subsets of vertices of G $G$, a constrained drawing of G $G$ is a drawing where each edge is drawn inside some set from C ${\mathscr{C}}$, in such a way that nonadjacent edges are drawn in sets with disjoint indices.

Optimizing convex hull discovery: Introducing a quintuple-region algorithm with enhanced computational efficiency

open access: yesEngineering Science and Technology, an International Journal
This paper introduces a novel algorithm for computing the convex hull of a finite set of points in two-dimensional space. Unlike traditional methods, this algorithm strategically partitions the input set into five distinct regions, isolating interior ...
