A Characterization of Symmetric Stable Distributions

open access: yesJournal of Function Spaces, 2016
Characterization problems in probability are studied here. Using the characteristic function of an additive convolution we generalize some known characterizations of the normal distribution to stable distributions.

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

The Concepts of Pseudo Compound Poisson and Partition Representations in Discrete Probability

open access: yesJournal of Probability and Statistics, 2015
The mathematical/statistical concepts of pseudo compound Poisson and partition representations in discrete probability are reviewed and clarified. A combinatorial interpretation of the convolution of geometric distributions in terms of a variant of ...

A New Reliability Class-Test Statistic for Life Distributions under Convolution, Mixture and Homogeneous Shock Model: Characterizations and Applications in Engineering and Medical Fields

open access: yesAxioms, 2023
Over the past few decades, a new area of reliability known as classes of life distributions has developed as a result of the creation of metrics for evaluating the success or failure of reliability.

Cumulants of Convolution—Mixed Distributions [PDF]

open access: yesASTIN Bulletin, 1977
Consider a risk process which is characterised by three stochastic variables(1) the number of accidents, N,(2) the number of claims per accident, C, and(3) the amount of a claim, X.Let Y be a random variable denoting the total loss in a given period.Suppose thatandIf Pr represents the probability that exactly r claims occur in the period, then Kupper ...

Deep Learning–Assisted Differentiation of Four Peripheral Neuropathies Using Corneal Confocal Microscopy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Peripheral neuropathies contribute to patient disability but may be diagnosed late or missed altogether due to late referral, limitation of current diagnostic methods and lack of specialized testing facilities. To address this clinical gap, we developed NeuropathAI, an interpretable deep learning–based multiclass classification ...

A Class of Power Series q-Distributions

open access: yesMathematics
A class of power series q-distributions, generated by considering a q-Taylor expansion of a parametric function into powers of the parameter, is discussed. Its q-factorial moments are obtained in terms of q-derivatives of its series (parametric) function.

Efficient Convolution Neural Networks for Object Tracking Using Separable Convolution and Filter Pruning

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
Object tracking based on deep learning is a hot topic in computer vision with many applications. Due to high computation and memory costs, it is difficult to deploy convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for object tracking on embedded systems with limited

Tales of Tails

open access: yesEntropy, 2023
Typical human-scaled considerations of thermodynamic states depend primarily on the core of associated speed or other relevant distributions, because the wings of those distributions are so improbable that they cannot contribute significantly to averages.

X-ray scattering from surfaces: discrete and continuous components of roughness

open access: yes, 2006
Incoherent surface scattering yields a statistical description of the surface, due to the ensemble averaging over many independently sampled volumes. Depending on the state of the surface and direction of the scattering vector relative to the surface ...
