Work In Next Queue CONWIP

Computers & Industrial Engineering, 2020
Abstract The present paper is aimed at showing, through a simulative approach, that the adoption of a suitable dispatching rule allows to improve the single-loop CONstant Work In Process (CONWIP) control mechanism within Make To Order (MTO) production systems, balancing the workload among the workstations, reaching a performance level that ...

Dynamic decentralised balancing of CONWIP production systems

International Journal of Production Research, 2009
This paper presents a non-linear programming model for online balancing of the work-in-queue (WIQ) of a fast response production system that consists of multiple workstations and diverse part mix. The model resembles a multiple product CONWIP system with a variety of products’ routings and bottlenecks.

Comparing reactive Kanban and reactive CONWIP

Production Planning & Control, 2002
This paper compares a reactive Kanban system to a reactive CONWIP system under conditions of unstable changes in demand using simulation experiments. After an introduction, a model of the JIT ordering systems, the Kanban and the CONWIP systems, is constructed.

A CONWIP model for FMS control

Journal of Intelligent Manufacturing, 2002
Production inventory control is one of the most important aspects of a flexible manufacturing system (FMS) design. CONstant Work In Process (CONWIP), which is a hybrid of push-and-pull type systems, offers an alternative to effective utilization of the expensive FMS equipment while still meeting customer requirements. In the selection of an FMS control

CONWIP: a pull alternative to kanban

International Journal of Production Research, 1990
SUMMARY This paper describes a new pull-based production system called CONWIP. Practical advantages of CONWIP over push and other pull systems are given. Theoretical arguments in favour of the system are outlined and simulation studies are included to give insight into the system's performance.

Dynamic card controlling in a Conwip system

International Journal of Production Economics, 2006
Abstract The main parameter affecting the performance of pull systems (such as Kanban or Conwip) is the number of cards employed to control the release of the material. Therefore, establishing the correct number of cards in pull systems is an important issue that can be addressed either statically (i.e. card setting), or dynamically (i.e.
