Cooling Towers

2020
Cooling towers are the most used units designed to reduce cooling water temperature downstream the process both in once-through configurations and in those with a recycle. Their theoretical background is strictly related to the definition of humidity and wet bulb temperature.

Cooling Towers

2007
Cooling is necessary to many industrial processes, such as power generation units; refrigeration and air conditioning plants; and the manufacturing, chemical, petrochemical, and petroleum industries. As recently as 20 years ago, cooling towers were more the exception than the rule in the industry because of their high operating cost and the large ...

Seismic Analysis of Cooling Towers

Engineering Structures, 1984
Abstract Hyperbolic natural-draught cooling towers to be erected in seismically active zones are routinely analysed for earthquake excitation. The axisymmetric shell is discretized with higher order finite element frusta, with an isoparametric expansion in the meridional direction and a Fourier expansion in the circumferential direction.

Cooling Towers and Evaporative Condensers

Annals of Internal Medicine, 1979
By 31 October 1978 there had been four confirmed instances where the Legionnaires' disease bacterium had been isolated from water samples taken from cooling towers or evaporative condensers located near the site of an epidemic of Legionnaires' disease.

Buckling of Cooling Towers

Journal of the Structural Division, 1982
The main goal of this study is to provide a clearer basis for judging the succeding safety of wind-loaded cantilever hyperboloidal shells. New predictions for cooling tower buckling are presented and compared with newly available experimental information.

The Design of Cooling Towers

Transactions of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 1922
Abstract The author points out that engineers have designed cooling towers in the past on empirical information and in accordance with the experience of previous successful designs. Wide departure from standard designs is difficult because of the lack of scientific basis for the design.

Dry Cooling Towers

1976
Publisher Summary The chapter presents a technical summary of the power-plant cooling problem, outlining generic possibilities, and the associated environmental impacts, in the categories of hydrosphere, atmosphere, noise, and aesthetics. General ideas of economic optimization are given, and the conventional alternatives are described.
