DNA methylation and expression of MAPRE3 affect overall survival of early‐stage non‐small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Both cg12821679MAPRE3 methylation and MAPRE3 expression are significantly associated with overall survival (OS) of non‐small cell lung cancer. Meanwhile, MAPRE3 expression significantly modified the effect of smoking cessation on OS. Smoking cessation benefits OS merely for patients with high MAPRE3 expression.

Repeated evolution of cooperative breeding and life history traits in Lake Tanganyika cichlids

open access: yesCommunications Biology
Cooperative breeding is a social system where offspring receive care not only from their parents but also from other group members. The life history traits related to the evolutionary transition towards such complex systems are still poorly understood ...

Filogenia y evolución de la conducta en los ictéridos [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The evolution of selected behavioral characteristics in the family Icteridae is discussed in the light of the new DNA phylogeny. The woven pensile nest is found in only two of the main icterid clades, the caciques plus oropendolas (Cacicus and ...

Differential regulation of ZFAS1 splice variants by endoplasmic reticulum stress in hepatocyte cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ZFAS1 is a lncRNA promoting cell proliferation and migration, exhibiting high expression in various cancers. It is conserved, widely expressed, and produces multiple splice variants with unclear roles. We identified several splice variants in hepatocyte models, and found that inhibiting or suppressing regulators of the unfolded protein response (PERK ...

BMI‐1 modulation and trafficking during M phase in diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The schematic illustrates BMI‐1 phosphorylation during M phase, which triggers its translocation from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. In cycling cells, BMI‐1 functions within the PRC1 complex to mediate H2A K119 monoubiquitination. Following PTC596‐induced M phase arrest, phosphorylated BMI‐1 dissociates from PRC1 and is exported to the cytoplasm via its

New Species, New Record, and Antagonistic Potential of Torula (Torulaceae, Pleosporales) from Jilin Province, China

open access: yesMicroorganisms
During a survey of ascomycetous fungi associated with plant litter and submerged wood in Jilin Province, China, two hyphomycetous fungi were discovered. Morphological examination and molecular phylogenetic analyses revealed that these isolates represent ...

The Human Family—Its Evolutionary Context and Diversity

open access: yesSocial Sciences, 2021
The family defines many aspects of our daily lives, and expresses a wide array of forms across individuals, cultures, ecologies and time. While the nuclear family is the norm today in developed economies, it is the exception in most other historic and ...

A CASE STUDY OF LUNTIAN MULTI-PURPOSE COOPERATIVE IN BARANGAY LALAIG, TIAONG, QUEZON, PHILIPPINES: A VERTICAL INTEGRATION APPROACH [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The Luntian Multi-Purpose Cooperative located in Tiaong, Quezon, Philippines. The Luntian Multi-Purpose cooperative focuses more on feed production as well as hog fattening. The LMC applied the vertical integration to develop the cooperative. They have

On the further integration of cooperative breeding and cooperation theory [PDF]

open access: yesBehavioural Processes, 2007
We present a synopsis about the commentaries to the target article "Integrating cooperative breeding into theoretical concepts of cooperation", in which we attempted to integrate general mechanisms to explain cooperative behaviour among unrelated individuals with classic concepts to explain helping behaviour in cooperative breeders that do not invoke ...
