Cooperative Networks with Multiuser Diversity
23rd Biennial Symposium on Communications, 2006, 2006In order to improve the diversity order of a cooperative network, this paper presents a new scheme which combines multiuser diversity with the amplify-and-forward protocol. We derive an asymptotic expression of the average symbol error rate (SER) to analyze the diversity order.

Cultural Diversity, Cooperation, and Antisocial Punishment [PDF]
Is culture an important variable to explain whether groups can successfully provide public goods? A wealth of empirical evidence on both industrialized and developing countries shows that cooperation levels decrease in the presence of ethnic divisions. Although several laboratory works deal with cultural differences, so far most studies restrict their ...

Cooperative diversity in wireless networks
6th IEE International Conference on 3G and Beyond (05/11182), 2005An ad-hoc network with a base station, a mobile and a third station acting as a relay is analysed. The channels are modelled using path loss, Rayleigh fading and thermal noise. Different combining methods and diversity protocols are compared. In the simulations, the amplify and forward protocol shows a better performance than the decode and forward ...

Capacity bounds for Cooperative diversity
IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 2006In a cooperative diversity network, users cooperate to transmit each others' messages; to some extent nodes therefore collectively act as an antenna array and create a virtual or distributed multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system. In this paper, upper and lower bounds for the information-theoretic capacity of four-node ad hoc networks with two ...

Diversity and multiplexing tradeoff bounds for cooperative diversity protocols
International Symposium onInformation Theory, 2004. ISIT 2004. Proceedings., 2004We consider a wireless network with multiple terminals (m/spl ges/2) as well as multiple receive antennas at the destination (N/spl ges/1) and obtain diversity multiplexing tradeoff upper bounds for some recently proposed cooperative diversity protocols.

Cooperative partners selection in the cooperative diversity ad-hoc network
IEE Mobility Conference 2005. The Second International Conference on Mobile Technology, Applications and Systems, 2005In this paper, the concept of cooperative diversity is introduced in future wireless networks. An important question for cooperative wireless networks is how cooperative terminals are assigned and managed in a multi-terminal network. In other words, how is it determined which users cooperate with each other, and how often are relaying terminals ...

Diversity Techniques and Cooperative Networks
2014Achieving IEEE 802.22 WRAN spectrum sensing specifications is challenging because of shadowing, fading, and time variation of wireless channels. These distortions can be mitigated by using diversity combining and cooperative spectrum sensing techniques. The former improves the receive SNR, and the latter mitigates the hidden terminal problem.

Differential Modulation Schemes for Cooperative Diversity
2006 IEEE International Conference on Networking, Sensing and Control, 2006Recent developments of wireless networks show that cooperative diversity can produce multi-input multi-output (MIMO) advantages by forming a virtual antenna array with distributed network nodes. Although differential schemes have long been appreciated in conventional MIMO communications since they provide the benefit of simplicity at the receiver by ...

On Diversity of Cooperative Relaying Protocols
2007 Second International Conference on Communications and Networking in China, 2007We focus on the achievable diversity order and probability of error performance in an uncoded cooperative relaying scenario with multiple relays when the destination has no knowledge of the channel gains corresponding to the source to relay links. We consider a hard-decision adaptive decode-and- forward protocol wherein each relay transmits only if its
