A Coordinate System for Gaussian Networks [PDF]
This paper studies network information theory problems where the external noise is Gaussian distributed. In particular, the Gaussian broadcast channel with coherent fading and the Gaussian interference channel are investigated. It is shown that in these problems, non-Gaussian code ensembles can achieve higher rates than the Gaussian ones.

Reconsidering the Galactic coordinate system [PDF]
Initially defined by the IAU in 1958, the galactic coordinate system was thereafter in 1984 transformed from the B1950.0 FK4-based system to the J2000.0 FK5-based system. In 1994, the IAU recommended that the dynamical reference system FK5 be replaced by the ICRS, which is a kinematical non-rotating system defined by a set of remote radio sources ...

The Conservation Equations for Multicomponent Gas Mixtures in Arbitrary Coordinate Systems [PDF]
The conservation equations for multicomponent reacting gas mixtures are generally given only in Cartesian or orthogonal curvilinear coordinate systems. Actually, the conservation equations are easily expressed in an arbitrary coordinate system.

Magnetic Coordinate Systems [PDF]
Geospace phenomena such as the aurora, plasma motion, ionospheric currents and associated magnetic field disturbances are highly organized by Earth's main magnetic field. This is due to the fact that the charged particles that comprise space plasma can move almost freely along magnetic field lines, but not across them. For this reason it is sensible to

Scratch as an Environment for Learning the Coordinate System by Elementary School Students
The focal point of mathematics education research is to comprehend how students develop and consolidate their abstract mathematical knowledge. As goal of this research, the focus was on exploring the processes that sixth-grade students used to construct ...

Effect of Insert Angles on Cutting Tool Geometry [PDF]
An analysis of publications has shown that mechanically clamped indexable inserts are predominantly used in modern tool manufacturing. Each insert has its shape and geometry in the tool coordinate system. The static system’s required geometry is achieved

On adapted coordinate systems [PDF]
The notion of an adapted coordinate system for a given real-analytic function, introduced by V. I. Arnol’d, plays an important role, for instance, in the study of asymptotic expansions of oscillatory integrals. In two dimensions, A. N. Varchenko gave sufficient conditions for the adaptness of a given coordinate system and proved the existence of an ...

Degree of Freedom of Gene Expression in Saccharomyces cerevisiae
The complexity of genome-wide gene expression has not yet been adequately addressed due to a lack of comprehensive statistical analyses. In the present study, we introduce degree of freedom (DOF) as a summary statistic for evaluating gene expression ...
