A continuous discharge improves the performance of the Cu/CuCl double pulse laser [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
A continuous glow discharge was applied to a Cu/CuCl double pulse laser. Maximum laser pulse energy was observed to increase as much as 35 percent at low buffer gas pressure and 3.5 percent at optimum buffer gas pressure.

Four‐Point Bending Tests at High Temperatures on Commercial MgO‐C Refractory Bricks with and Without Recyclate Considering Different Carbon Contents

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Four‐point bending tests are conducted in an argon atmosphere on commercial MgO‐C brick grades with and without MgO‐C recyclate from room temperature up to 1300 °C. No detrimental effect of the MgO‐C recyclates on bending strength is found. Instead, a decisive influence of the total carbon content is observed, with lower total carbon contents ...

Cold atoms near superconductors: Atomic spin coherence beyond the Johnson noise limit

open access: yes, 2009
We report on the measurement of atomic spin coherence near the surface of a superconducting niobium wire. As compared to normal conducting metal surfaces, the atomic spin coherence is maintained for time periods beyond the Johnson noise limit. The result

Investigation of Thermo‐Chemical Processes in Commercial MgO‐C Refractory Bricks With and Without MgO‐C Recyclate at Elevated Temperatures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates thermo‐chemical processes during high‐temperature testing of two commercial MgO‐C brick grades, one containing 47.5 wt.% MgO‐C recyclate. Using ETV, DTA/TG‐MS, XRD, and SEM/EDS/EBSD, mechanisms such as carbothermal reduction of magnesia, impurity incorporation into the secondary MgO surface layer, and calcium‐rich phase ...

Study on AC Loss of REBCO Tape Encapsulated with Magnetic Materials

open access: yesCrystals
REBCO coated conductors have a multi-layer structure, and the outer encapsulation layer is generally made of non-magnetic copper material. This paper proposes a new structure of REBCO tape, which replaces the copper layer with magnetic material to ...

Investigation of power loss of Bi-2223 HTS tapes used for MRI gradient coil [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Bi-2223 High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) tape was investigated for the first time as the material for MRI gradient coil. Due to the low resistance and high critical current, an HTS tape gradient has the great advantages of more compact ...

Ab initio calculations of the dynamical response of copper

open access: yes, 1999
The role of localized $d$-bands in the dynamical response of Cu is investigated, on the basis of {\em ab initio} pseudopotential calculations. The density-response function is evaluated in both the random-phase approximation (RPA) and a time-dependent ...

Thermophysical Properties of the Desulphurization Slags With Various CaS and CaO/Al2O3 Ratio

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article investigates how CaS content and the CaO/Al2O3 ratio influence the thermophysical properties of desulphurization slags. Using experimental measurements and thermodynamic simulations, this study reveals complex effects on viscosity, surface tension, and density, providing new insight into slag structure and phase behavior under ...

Population of Nonmetallic Inclusions in Liquid High‐Silicon Electrical Steel in Contact With MgO–C Refractories Based on Recyclates and Environmentally Friendly Binders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The formation of nonmetallic inclusions (NMIs) was investigated in this study, carrying out immersion tests for 30 min at a temperature of 1600°C with liquid high‐silicon electrical steel (Si ≈ 3 mass‐%) and different MgO–C refractories. Conventional MgO–C refractories were considered, as well as MgO–C refractories containing MgO–C recyclate and ...
