Pleistocene mafic volcanoes in the Puna–Cordillera Oriental boundary, NW-Argentina

open access: yesJournal of Volcanology and Geothermal Research, 2006
Abstract Los Gemelos and El Saladillo are both monogenetic, strombolian, basaltic–shoshonitic volcanoes that constitute the easternmost recognized examples of mafic Plio-Quaternary volcanism in the southern Central Andes. Two regional faults delimit the borders of the Calchaqui valley, as thrusts with opposite vergence: the eastern Calchaqui fault ...

Palaeoglacier reconstruction and dynamics of Cordillera Vilcanota in the tropical high Peruvian Andes

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 51, Issue 2, February 2026.
We provide a geomorphological analysis of Cordillera Vilcanota and use morphostratigraphic principles to reconstruct palaeo icefield extent and palaeoglacier readvances, likely during the Antarctic Cold Reversal and Younger Dryas. We find evidence of temperate and polythermal ice margins, with limited glaciofluvial landform generation.

Strong Variation in Land‐Use Change Impacts on Tropical Avian Phylogenetic Diversity Between Ecoregions Highlights the Need to Sample Large Spatial Scales

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 32, Issue 1, January 2026.
Forest conversion for agriculture is a major cause of biodiversity loss in the tropics, but its impacts depend on how broadly they are measured. Using data from across Colombia, one of the most biodiverse countries in the world, we examined how deforestation for cattle farming affects the evolutionary history of bird species.

Fine‐Scale Bioregionalization in a Complex Island System: A Freshwater Perspective From the Greater Antilles

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 53, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim The isolated nature of islands makes them particularly vulnerable to climate change. The freshwater fishes of the Greater Antilles remain understudied and are further threatened by habitat fragmentation and the introduction of exotic invasive species.

Quantifying the success of prey crypsis, aposematism, and evasiveness in avoiding predator attack

open access: yesEcology, Volume 106, Issue 11, November 2025.
Abstract Antipredator defenses typically act at distinct stages of the predation sequence—encounter, identification, approach, and subjugation. However, their effectiveness has rarely been quantified and compared simultaneously in wild predator–prey systems.

Linking climate change, rice yield, and migration: the Philippine experience [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This study tests the hypothesis that climate change, through its rice productivity impacts, induces out-migration in the Philippines. Results show that climate change effects such as increasing night time temperature and extreme rainfall pattern, by way ...
