Hydride destabilization in core–shell nanoparticles
International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, 2014Abstract We present a model that describes the effect of elastic constraint on the thermodynamics of hydrogen absorption and desorption in biphasic core–shell nanoparticles, where the core is a hydride forming metal. In particular, the change of the hydride formation enthalpy and of the equilibrium pressure for the metal/hydride transformation are ...

White Fluorescence from Core–Shell Silica Nanoparticles
Angewandte Chemie, 2012Into the white: Encapsulation of a naphthalimide moiety in the core of silica nanoparticles afforded nanospheres with a strong green excimeric emission. Together with the blue emission of the monomeric naphthalimide and the yellow fluorescence of the tetrazine acceptor on the outer shell, the added contributions provide intense white fluorescence upon ...

Strongly Luminescent InP/ZnS Core-Shell Nanoparticles
ChemPhysChem, 2001The wide-bandgap semiconducting material, zinc sulfide, has been coated on indium phosphide nanoclusters to a 1-2-Å thickness. The resulting InP-ZnS core-shell particle (as shown in the TEM image; scale 1 cm=5 nm) exhibits bright luminescence at room temperature with quantum efficiencies as high as 23 %.

Biocompatible magnetic core/shell nanoparticles
Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 2002Abstract Biocompatible magnetic fluids composed of modified nano-sized magnetic iron oxide particles have been prepared. The magnetic particles have been obtained (diameter in the order 2–30 nm) by variations of the concentration of reactants, temperature, operation time and pH conditions as well as the electrolyte concentration.

Porosity of core–shell nanoparticles
J. Mater. Chem., 2004The porosity of titania and zirconia covered Ag and Au nanoparticles has been investigated using the metal core reactivity as a probe. The presence of pores was confirmed by a newly discovered reaction between halocarbons and core–shell nanoparticles, in which the core gets converted into ions, which are leached out through the shell.

Drug diffusion from polymer core–shell nanoparticles
Soft Matter, 2007Polymer core-shell nanoparticles are attractive drug-delivery systems because the drug can be encapsulated inside the core, while the shell properties can be assigned to optimise drug-delivery needs. An elegant approach to such particles is to use polymer gels, which have swelling properties that depend upon conditions such as pH.
