Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Practical Verification of the Approximation Method of the Influence of Guillotine and Laser Cutting and Core Dimensions on Losses and Magnetization of Induction Motor Cores

open access: yesEnergies
Induction motors are a significant consumer of electricity. One of the crucial elements of losses in an induction motor is core losses. Core losses become dominant in motors powered by an inverter at higher frequencies.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Impact of Core Sheet Cutting Method on Parameters of Induction Motors

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
The method of cutting motor core sheets causes a change in their magnetic properties and core losses, especially additional losses. Reducing motor losses is very important because of the fulfillment of increasingly stringent requirements set by ...

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Predicting loss in magnetic steels under arbitrary induction waveform and with minor hysteresis loops [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We have studied ways of predicting power losses in soft magnetic laminations for generic time dependence of the periodic magnetic polarization J(t). We found that, whatever the frequency and the induction waveform, the loss behavior can be quantitatively

Numerical investigation of confinement losses in semiconductor-core optical fibers

open access: yes, 2021
The sources of the confinement losses in semiconductor-core optical fibers are numerically investigated by introducing fabrication-inspired imperfections such as micro-cracks and core ellipticity.

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Core Loss of MgZn Ferrite.

open access: yesJournal of the Japan Society of Powder and Powder Metallurgy, 1999
The effects of substitution of Mn2O3 for Fe2O3 Or CuO for MgO in MgZn ferrite have been studied in order to achieve low core loss, focusing on the microstructure, the initial permeability and the resistivity of MnZn, MnMgZn, and MnMgCuZn ferrites.Initial permeability and resistivity of both MnMgZn and MnMgCuZn ferrites are higher than those of MgZn ...
