Optimal Inductor Design and Material Selection for High Power Density Inverters Used in Aircraft Applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This paper presents the design and optimization of power inductors for three-phase high-power-density inverters to be used in aircraft applications. The inductor’s geometric parameters, magnetic properties, core material selection, core and copper losses

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Optimal Design of IPM Motors With Different Cooling Systems and Winding Configurations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Performance improvement of permanent magnet (PM) motors through optimization techniques has been widely investigated in the literature. Oftentimes the practice of design optimization leads to derivation/interpretation of optimal scaling rules of PM ...

Design, fabrication, and characterization of deep-etched waveguide gratings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
One-dimensional (1-D) deep-etched gratings on a specially grown AlGaAs wafer were designed and fabricated. The gratings were fabricated using state-of-the-art electron beam lithography and high-aspect-ratio reactive ion etching (RIE) in order to achieve ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Core Loss of MgZn Ferrite.

open access: yesJournal of the Japan Society of Powder and Powder Metallurgy, 1999
The effects of substitution of Mn2O3 for Fe2O3 Or CuO for MgO in MgZn ferrite have been studied in order to achieve low core loss, focusing on the microstructure, the initial permeability and the resistivity of MnZn, MnMgZn, and MnMgCuZn ferrites.Initial permeability and resistivity of both MnMgZn and MnMgCuZn ferrites are higher than those of MgZn ...

Passive house ventilation strategies: demand control? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Since insulation levels in a passive house context are very high, energy losses trough ventilation are of relatively high importance in the total energy balance of a passive house concept.

Analysis of second harmonic generation in photonic-crystal-assisted waveguides [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We study second harmonic generation in a planar dielectric waveguide having a low-index, polymer core layer, bounded by two multilayer stacks. This geometry allows exceptionally strong confinement of the light at the fundamental wavelength inside the ...

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Application of advanced materials to rotating machines [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
In discussing the application of advanced materials to rotating machinery, the following topics are covered: the torque speed characteristics of ac and dc machines, motor and transformer losses, the factors affecting core loss in motors, advanced ...
