Core loss reduction in electrical steels through materials processing [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Research has been conducted into the effects of laser scribing on the core losses of soft magnetic materials. Various types of lamination steels for use in electric motors and transformers were studied including iron based alloys containing carbon ...

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Performance of single wire earth return transformers with amorphous alloy core in a rural electric energy distribution system

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2012
In this paper are presented some considerations about the performance of single wire earth return amorphous alloy core transformers in comparison with conventional silicon steel sheets cores transformers used in rural electric energy distribution network.

Short-wavelength transmission-loss suppression in fibre Bragg gratings

open access: yes, 1997
Fibre Bragg Gratings (FBGs) are known to suffer from short-wavelength, transmission losses due to resonant coupling into backward-propagating cladding modes. Figure 1 shows a typical transmission spectrum of a 10cm standard FBG.

Data Transparent and Polarization Insensitive All-Optical Switch based on Fibers with Enhanced Nonlinearity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We have developed a data transparent optical packet switch prototype employing wavelength conversion based on four-wave mixing. The switch is composed of an electro-optical control unit and an all-optical switching segment.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Influence of Niobium as Microalloying Element in 3%Si Steel Grade for Electrical Industry

open access: yesThe Annals of “Dunarea de Jos” University of Galati. Fascicle IX, Metallurgy and Materials Science, 2012
The paper presents the results of the laboratory research on the chemical composition and crystallographic texture in 3% Si steels and their influence on the level of magnetic losses in the final sheet.

High-Frequency Gap Losses in Nanocrystalline Cores

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, 2017
Finite element analysis is used to examine the gap losses that occur in finely laminated nanocrystalline inductor cores under high-frequency operation. The losses are seen to be concentrated in the region of the air gap and the dependence of the losses on key design parameters and operating conditions is explored.

Design of space-type electronic power transformers [PDF]

open access: yes
Both open and encapsulated varieties of high reliability, low weight, and high efficiency moderate and high voltage transformers were investigated to determine the advantages and limitations of their construction in the ranges of power and voltage ...

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...
