Selenium semiconductor core optical fibers [PDF]
Phosphate glass-clad optical fibers containing selenium (Se) semiconductor core were fabricated using a molten core method. The cores were found to be amorphous as evidenced by X-ray diffraction and corroborated by Micro-Raman spectrum.

Hollow core optical fiber enabled by epsilon-near-zero material [PDF]
Hollow core optical fibers of numerous guiding mechanisms have been studied in the past decades for their advantages on guiding light in air core. This work demonstrates a new hollow core optical fiber based on a different guiding mechanism, which ...

Twin-core fiber optical tweezers
We present an abruptly tapered twin-core fiber optical tweezers, which is fabricated by fusing and drawing the twin-core fiber. In the twin-core fiber, the two beams are guided by the tapered fiber. At the end of the fiber tip, a larger converge angle between the two beams are made due to the abrupt tapered shape, which is formed a fast divergent ...

Analysis of replacing an optical fiber core with polymer
This paper presents the analysis of a 2 cm long in-fiber polymer waveguide formed on the platform of a D-shaped optical fiber. Numerical simulations provide an understanding of the major loss mechanisms for feasible in-fiber polymer waveguide geometries.

Characteristics of embedded-core hollow optical fiber
We propose a novel embedded-core hollow optical fiber composed of a central air hole, a semi-elliptical core, and an annular cladding. The fiber characteristics are investigated based on the finite element method (FEM), including mode properties, birefringence, confinement loss, evanescent field and bending loss.

Core opportunities for future optical fibers [PDF]
AbstractHair-thin strands of glass, intrinsically transparent and strong, of which many millions of kilometers are made annually, connect the world in ways unimaginable 50 years ago. What could another 50 years bring? That question is the theme of this Perspective.
