Investigation on Crosstalk in Multi-core Optical Fibers

open access: yes, 2015
We start by describing what SDM is, the problem at hand for it’s been considered and the different solutions it can provide. We focus on Multi - Core Fibers (MCF) as the favorite solution re garding SDM and proceed to study the main parameter that dictates the performance and limitations of said fiber, the crosstalk.

Designing Physical Unclonable Functions From Optically Active Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Assigning unforgeable “fingerprints” to manufactured goods is a key strategy to fight global counterfeiting. Optical physical unclonable functions (PUFs) are chemically generated random patterns of optically active materials serving as unique authenticators.

Covalent Surface Modification of Hydrophobic Alkoxides on Ti3C2Tx MXene Nanosheets Toward Amphiphilic and Electrically Conductive Inks

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Electrically conductive and amphiphilic MXene inks are achieved by surface modification of sodium alkoxides, where surface‐modified MXenes are dispersible both in water and in non‐polar solvents such as toluene. Alkoxide‐functionalized MXenes also show enhanced environmental stability compared to pristine MXene, leading to higher electrical ...

3D Printing of Auxetic Self‐powered Mechanoluminescent Photonic Skins for Underwater Communication and Safety Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D‐printed self‐powered auxetic mechanoluminescent photonic skin for underwater communication and safety monitoring is introduced. Its auxetic structures, with a negative Poisson's ratio, ensure exceptional conformability to curved surfaces, enhancing adaptability to dynamic underwater environments.
