Identification and functional analysis of the female determiner gene in the bean bug, Riptortus pedestris

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 80, Issue 3, Page 1240-1248, March 2024.
The gene Rpfmd, which determines female sex in Riptortus pedestris, was first identified. This gene is essential for the development of female‐specific characteristics during the embryonic, nymphal, and adult stages, but it has no effect on males. The Rpfmd gene is an ideal candidate for homing‐based gene driver genetic control.
