Staphylococcus aureus Augments Epithelial Skin Barrier Damage Through T Cell Activation in Cutaneous T Cell Lymphoma

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
Staphylococcus aureus, commonly colonising CTCL patients, augments skin barrier dysfunction. Staphylococcal enterotoxins induce T‐cell release of barrier‐repressing cytokines (IL‐4, IL‐13, IL‐22, OSM). Cytokine signalling drives JAK‐dependent downregulation of filaggrin and loricrin in keratinocytes. Antibiotic‐mediated eradication of S. aureus induces

Divergent Paths: A Comprehensive Review of Mechanisms and Clinical Implications in Atopic Dermatitis and Psoriasis

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Atopic dermatitis and psoriasis are two common cutaneous chronic inflammatory diseases. Although they share similar immunological mechanisms, their clinical implications in the patient are different. This review compares both diseases from different points of view such as genetics, natural history, triggers of disease, and skin barrier defects

Rapid Human Skin Barrier Disruption by Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate and Associated Molecular Mechanisms

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
Short‐term exposure to SDS rapidly disrupts human skin barrier integrity within minutes, as detected by real‐time electrical impedance spectroscopy. SDS‐induced barrier dysfunction is driven by oxidative stress, leading to suppression of immune/barrier mediators and activation of stress, lipid remodeling, and epidermal differentiation pathways ...

Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy in Clinically Node‐Negative Merkel Cell Carcinoma: An Update of the Westmead Hospital Experience

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a rare, aggressive cutaneous neuroendocrine malignancy with a high risk of nodal metastasis. Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) is used to stage clinically node‐negative disease and to guide adjuvant therapy decisions.

A case of canine urothelial carcinoma of the urinary bladder with skull and skeletal metastases

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Canine urinary bladder neoplasia is uncommon, representing less than 1% of canine neoplasms. Amongst cases of urinary bladder neoplasia in dogs, primary urothelial carcinoma is the most frequent. Urothelial carcinomas are malignant invasive tumours which tend to be slow growing and metastasise late.

Shared and specific molecular mechanisms of proteasome inhibitors in chemotherapy‐induced peripheral neurotoxicity

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
This study compares the molecular mechanisms of chemotherapy‐related peripheral neurotoxicity of two proteasome inhibitors, bortezomib and carfilzomib, using a multidisciplinary approach to reveal that, alongside shared effects on mitochondria structure and function, the more neurotoxic drug BTZ has specific effects on microtubules and mitochondrial ...

Patch Test Results With Additions to the European Baseline Series, 2021/22—Joint European Results of the ESSCAA and the EBSB Working Groups of the ESCD, and the GEIDACC

open access: yesContact Dermatitis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Allergens are periodically added to the European Baseline Series (EBS) to audit their value in consecutive patch testing. Objectives To present results of audit allergens tested in consecutive patients in 54 departments in 13 European countries during 2021 and 2022.
