Ferulates and lignin structural composition in cork [PDF]

open access: yesHolzforschung, 2015
AbstractThe structure of lignin and suberin, and ferulic acid (FA) content in cork fromQuercus suberL. were studied. Extractive-free cork (Cork), suberin, desuberized cork (Corksap), and milled-cork lignins (MCL) from Cork and Corksapwere isolated. Suberin composition was determined by GC-MS/FID, whereas the polymers structure in Cork, Corksap, and MCL

Iron‐Mediated Release of Aged Dissolved Organic Carbon From Waterlogged Peatland Under Warming

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study conducts a five‐year in situ warming experiment in high‐altitude peatlands to examine dissolved organic carbon (DOC) release. The study shows that warming promotes the release of plant‐derived modern DOC in drained peatlands, but amplifies aquatic export of century‐old DOC from waterlogged peatlands via Fe‐mediated DOC mobilization—a ...

Natural Fibres as Reinforcement Strategy on Cork-Polymer Composites [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials Science Forum, 2012
Cork powder, the most important sub-product of cork processing, combined with thermoplastic matrixes like, high density polyethylene (HDPE), offer a new class of cork-polymer composite (CPC) materials with high added-value. Therefore, reinforcing strategies must be considered to increase the mechanical performance, especially when high content of cork ...

EphB1‐Mediated Transient Blood‐Brain Barrier Opening Facilitates a Ferritin‐Based Nanotherapeutic for Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We constructed a brain‐targeted AFn‐DPZ nanodrug delivery system and identified EphB1 as its receptor on the blood‐brain barrier (BBB). This system facilitates drug transport across the BBB and thereby ameliorates cognitive impairment in Alzheimer's disease.
