Properties of polylactic acid and biochar-based composites for environment-friendly plant containers

open access: yesCleaner Engineering and Technology
Traditional, petroleum-based plastics are known to linger in the environment for years due to their non-biodegradability and non-sustainability, eventually fragmenting into microplastics and contaminating waterways and agricultural systems.

TAB2 Causes Neuronal Damage by Aggravating Microglia‐Mediated Neuroinflammation in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In microglia, STAT3 upregulates TAB2, which promotes NF‐κB activation through its NZF domain‐mediated recognition of K63‐linked ubiquitin chains, leading to inflammatory cytokine release and subsequent neuronal injury. Lumacaftor suppresses TAB2 expression and directly binds the TAB2‐NZF domain to interrupt K63 ubiquitin recognition, thereby blocking ...

Reaction-byproduct-enabled pore engineering in bio-based cork composites using a solvent-free epoxidized soybean oil-citric acid adhesive

open access: yesIndustrial Crops and Products
Lightweight cork composites require adhesives that provide sufficient interparticle bonding without destroying the cellular structure responsible for thermal insulation, elastic recovery, and acoustic damping.

Comparison of several closure approximations for evaluating the thermoelastic properties of an injection molded short-fiber composite [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The accurate prediction of both the elastic properties and the thermal expansion coefficients is very important for the precise simulation of such processes as injection molding of short-fiber polymer-matrix composites.

Not All Agreements Are Equal: Heterogeneous Effects of RTAs on Latin American Agri‐Food Exports, 1990–2019

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Since the final decade of the 20th century, Latin American countries have increasingly regarded the signing of regional trade agreements (RTAs) as a promising strategy for expanding their exports. Within this context, the main objective of this study is to assess the impact of RTAs on agri‐food exports in Latin America over the period 1990 ...

From Swarm to Individual: Emergent Individuality in Light‐Mediated Robot Collectives

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Can individuality emerge from a swarm? Using nominally homogeneous phototactic robots, we show that collective light conditions reorganize robot‐level behavioral profiles. Global illumination amplifies persistent differences in state occupancy, while robot‐mounted local light cues reduce fixed differentiation and favor transient high‐switching profiles.
