In Vitro Modeling of Natural Killer Cell Cytotoxicity to Inform Personalized ALS Therapeutics

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Natural killer (NK) cells might contribute to motor neuron death in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) through direct cytotoxicity, a process that could be inhibited with the FDA‐approved JAK/STAT pathway inhibitor, tofacitinib. This study aimed to verify that tofacitinib can suppress NK cell cytotoxicity, investigate if immune cell

Modeling Long-Term Corn Yield Response to Nitrogen Rate and Crop Rotation

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2016
Improved prediction of optimal N fertilizer rates for corn (Zea mays L.) can reduce N losses and increase profits. We tested the ability of the Agricultural Production Systems sIMulator (APSIM) to simulate corn and soybean (Glycine max L.) yields, the ...

Activation of NF‐κB Signaling by Optogenetic Clustering of IKKα and β

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
This study presents an optogenetic approach for graded clustering of eGFP‐fused proteins using an eGFP‐specific nanobody and engineered Cryptochrome 2 variants. The method enables potent, reversible activation of NF‐κB signaling via endogenous pathways, as confirmed by RNA sequencing. This versatile system provides a spatially and temporally controlled

Detoxification of Corn

open access: yesJournal of Food Protection, 1981
Corn samples contaminated with aflatoxins were ground by a Wiley Mill, using a 40-mesh sieve to make meal. The toxin level was reduced to less than 20 ppb, as detected by minicolumn tests. Detoxification was done by the separate treatments of 3% hydrogen peroxide, 75% methanol, 5% dimethylamine hydrochloride or 3% perchloric acid.

Forskolin Enhances Urokinase Plasminogen Activator Secretion and Angiogenic Activity of Xeno‐Free Cultures of Human Adipose Tissue‐Derived Stem Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
The regenerative potential of adipose tissue‐derived stem cells can be enhanced through chemical stimulation in vitro. A short stimulation protocol using forskolin, either alone or in combination with other growth factors, under xeno‐free conditions enhanced the pro‐angiogenic responses in human ASCs.

The development of banana peel/corn starch bioplastic film: a preliminary study

open access: yesBioremediation Science and Technology Research, 2017
The aim of this study is to develop bioplastic film from a combination of two biopolymers of same source, namely banana peel and corn starch. Five banana peel films (BP film) were prepared with different concentrations of corn starch (1% up to 5%) as co ...

AN ECONOMIC ANALYSIS OF CORN YIELD, CORN PROFITABILITY, AND RISK AT THE EDGE OF THE CORN BELT

open access: yesJournal of Agricultural and Resource Economics, 2001
This study investigates the recent evolution of corn yield, with a special focus on the tradeoff between corn profitability and risk. The analysis relies on time-series data from Wisconsin experimental farms at the edge of the Corn Belt. An econometric model of corn yield, corn grain moisture, and corn profitability is specified. Both conditional means
