Age-related changes and diseases of the ocular surface and cornea.

Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science, 2013
Aging of the ocular surface and corneal tissues, major components of the visual system, causes major eye disease and results in substantial cost in medical and social terms.

Surgery of the Cornea

Veterinary Clinics of North America: Small Animal Practice, 1997
Corneal surgery is a common and essential part of veterinary ophthalmology and ranges from simple linear keratotomy for indolent ulcers to penetrating keratoplasty for restoration of optical clarity. Success in corneal surgery relies on an understanding of corneal anatomy, physiology and wound healing, meticulous attention to detail, microsurgical ...

Permeability of cornea, sclera, and conjunctiva: a literature analysis for drug delivery to the eye.

Journal of Pharmacy and Science, 1998
The objective of this study was to collect a comprehensive database of ocular tissue permeability measurements found in a review of the literature to guide models for drug transport in the eye.

Peptidase in the cornea

Experimental Eye Research, 1969
Peptidase activity, operative at neutral pH, was found in bovine cornea and conjunctiva with a synthetic substrate assay. The same peptidase was found previously in commercial bacterial collagenase preparations. Cell fractionation of homogenates revealed the activity to be maximal in the high-speed supernatant of the corneal and conjunctival epithelium,

METABOLISM OF THE CORNEA

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1949
SINCE the greater part of the cornea is remotely situated from the blood stream, this area may present unique mechanisms for the transfer of metabolites and excretory products. This tissue is avascular, but it is surrounded at its periphery by intravascular and extravascular fluid.

The structure of cornea

Quarterly Reviews of Biophysics, 1984
The anatomy and physiology of cornea has been described in reviews (Maurice, 1969; Davson, 1980). We are primarily concerned with the structure of the stroma of cornea. There are two levels of organization in the stroma: the collagen fibrils and the lamellae.
