Clinical outcomes after intrastromal corneal ring segments reoperation in keratoconus patients

open access: yesInternational Journal of Ophthalmology, 2013
AIM:To evaluate the clinical outcomes after Ferrara intrastromal corneal ring segments (ICRS) reoperation in patients with keratoconus.RESULTS: The mean follow-up time after the reoperation was 30.5±9.7 months. The mean UCVA improved from 20/300 to 20/80

Asphericity analysis using corneal wavefront and topographic meridional fits

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Optics, 2010
The calculation of corneal asphericity as a 3-D fit renders more accurate results when it is based on the corneal wavefront aberrations rather than on the corneal topography of the principal meridians. A more accurate prediction could be obtained for hyperopic treatments compared to myopic treatments.

Femtosecond Laser-Assisted Surgery for Implantation of Bioengineered Corneal Stroma to Promote Corneal Regeneration

open access: yes, 2020
The femtosecond laser has achieved widespread use in ophthalmology owing to its ability to deliver focused high energy that is rapidly dissipated and thereby does not damage surrounding tissue outside the precise focal region.

Arginine depletion as a mechanism for the immune privilege of corneal allografts. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The cornea is an immune privileged tissue. Since arginase has been found to modulate T-cell function by depleting arginine, we investigated the expression of arginase in the cornea and its possible role in immune privilege using a murine transplant model.

Differential correlations of refractive error, axial length, and axial length-to-corneal curvature ratio with anterior segment biometrics in myopic refractive surgery candidates

open access: yesPhotodiagnosis and Photodynamic Therapy
Purpose: To investigate the correlations of spherical equivalent (SE), axial length (AL), and AL to corneal curvature radius ratio (AL/CR) with anterior segment biometrics in candidates for myopic refractive surgery.

Evaluation of ocular biometry in the Japanese population using a multicenter approach: Prospective observational study

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2022
This prospective observational study aimed to evaluate the ocular biometry of Japanese people through a multicenter approach. The uncorrected and corrected distance visual acuity (UDVA and CDVA, respectively) in the log minimum angle of resolution ...

Birefringent properties of the human cornea in vivo : towards a new model of corneal structure [PDF]

open access: yes
The fundamental corneal properties of mechanical rigidity, maintenance of curvature and optical transparency result from the specific organisation of collagen fibrils in the corneal stroma. The exact arrangement of stromal collagen is currently unknown

Variation in normal corneal shape and the influence of eyelid morphometry

open access: yes, 2015
Purpose. To investigate variation in normal corneal shape and the influence of eyelid morphometry on corneal shape in primary gaze. Methods. Corneal topography (Medmont E300) and external eye photographs (Nikon D5000 SLR camera) were captured in primary ...
