Applications of epithelial thickness mapping in corneal refractive surgery

open access: yesSaudi Journal of Ophthalmology, 2022
In this review, we discuss the applications of epithelial thickness mapping in corneal refractive surgery. The review describes that the epithelial thickness profile is nonuniform in the normal eye, being thinner superiorly than inferiorly and thinner temporally than nasally.

Corneal and corneal epithelial thickness distribution characteristics in healthy North Indian eyes using spectral domain optical coherence tomography

open access: yesIndian Journal of Ophthalmology, 2022
Purpose: To determine the pattern of corneal thickness and epithelial thickness distribution in healthy North Indian eyes by using spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT).

The Influence of Tomographic Corneal Characteristics on Epithelial Thickness Profile [PDF]

open access: yesCureus, 2020
Purpose To understand the influence of tomographic corneal characteristics on the epithelium of normal eyes. Methods We scanned a total of 98 eyes of 98 individuals using anterior segment tomography and a spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (OCT) epithelial mapping tool.

Scaling and maintenance of corneal thickness during aging. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Corneal thickness is tightly regulated by its boundary endothelial and epithelial layers. The regulated set-point of corneal thickness likely shows inter-individual variations, changes by age, and response to stress.

Assessment of Corneal Epithelial Thickness in Dry Eye Patients [PDF]

open access: yesOptometry and Vision Science, 2014
ABSTRACT Purpose To investigate the features of corneal epithelial thickness topography with Fourier‐domain optical coherence tomography (OCT) in dry eye patients. Methods In this cross‐sectional study, 100 ...

Role of epithelial mapping in the differentiation between early keratoconus and high regular astigmatism using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography

open access: yesJournal of the Egyptian Ophthalmological Society, 2023
Pur6pose To detect epithelial thickness-based diagnostic variables to detect early keratoconus (KC) and differentiate cases of early KC from high regular astigmatism, especially if abnormal topographic changes are present.

Changes in Corneal Epithelial Thickness Induced by Topical Antiglaucoma Medications [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Medicine, 2021
Corneal thickness measurement is important for assessing intraocular pressure in patients with glaucoma. This study investigated the changes in corneal epithelial thickness (CET) induced by antiglaucoma medications and explored the factors affecting CET measurement.

Comparison of corneal epithelial and stromal thickness distributions between eyes with keratoconus and healthy eyes with corneal astigmatism ≥ 2.0 D. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
To identify corneal epithelial- and stromal-thickness distribution patterns in keratoconus using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT).We analyzed SD-OCT findings in 20 confirmed cases of keratoconus (group 1) and in 20 healthy subjects ...

Corneal epithelial thickness as a diagnostic tool in ophthalmology – a case series

open access: yesKlinika Oczna, 2023
Following the introduction of a commercially available SD-OCT system in 2017, corneal epithelial mapping was incorporated into ophthalmology, particularly refractive surgery, as a valuable, highly diagnostic tool.

Corneal thickness in Fuchs' dystrophy with and without epithelial oedema [PDF]

open access: yesEye, 1998
To investigate whether the occurrence of epithelial oedema in Fuchs' endothelial dystrophy is associated with a particular corneal thickness or the extent of central corneal guttae.Sixty-seven patients, aged 52-90 years, presenting in our clinic with Fuchs' dystrophy were divided on the basis of the presence or absence of epithelial oedema as ...
