Laser refractive surgery in corneal dystrophies

open access: yesJournal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery, 2021
Twenty-eight case reports and case series published between 2000 and 2019 concerning laser refractive surgery in patients with corneal dystrophies, resulting in 173 eyes from 94 patients, were included in this systematic review. Best results were achieved in posterior corneal polymorphous and Cogan dystrophy.

Antibacterial Applications of Black and Violet Phosphorus‐Based Biomaterials

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
Black and violet phosphorus‐based biomaterials exhibit broad‐spectrum antibacterial efficacy in various infections, including bone, skin, ocular, dental, lung, and sepsis cases. Their antibacterial mechanisms include physical disruption, light‐driven effects, targeted drug delivery, and enhanced composite strategies.

Decision taking in corneal refractive surgery

open access: yesJournal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery, 2023
A 27-year-old woman who wants to get rid of contact lenses and spectacles was seen at our clinic. She had strabismus surgery as a child and was patched for the right eye but now shows mild nondisturbing exophoria. Infrequently, she likes to box in the sports school.

Nanostructured drug delivery systems for posterior segment eye diseases: Strategies to defy ocular barriers

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
Efficient drug delivery to the posterior segment of the eye has long been a challenging issue due to the complex ocular barriers. The review focuses on the promise held by nanoplatforms for barrier penetration and the key mechanisms involved, also highlighting their advantages in achieving efficient drug delivery and superior treatment of PSEDs ...

Multifocal versus monofocal intraocular lenses after cataract extraction. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
BACKGROUND: Good unaided distance visual acuity is now a realistic expectation following cataract surgery and intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. Near vision, however, still requires additional refractive power, usually in the form of reading glasses ...

Impact of corneal astigmatism on refractive outcomes after phacoemulsification with implantation of a spherical IOL

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmology, 2021
Background: To date, particular emphasis is being put to correction of preoperative corneal astigmatism in phacoemulsification, since approximately 30% of the world’s population has astigmatism of at least 0.75D which results in decreased visual acuity ...
