Corneal Inflammation Following Excimer Laser Surgery
2014Millions of surface ablation excimer laser surgeries are performed worldwide. The normal cornea, when photoablated, reacts in a way specific to this process. The fundamentals of this biological reactivity are based on the normal structure of the photoablated cornea and on the energy delivered by the laser.

Time-expanding options in laser corneal refractive surgery
British Journal of Ophthalmology, 2013It was not until the early 1990s that some of the corneoplastic principles proposed by Jose Ignacio Barraquer were translated into widespread clinical and surgical practice worldwide. There were limitations in precision with the available mechanical microkeratomes at that time, but they were good enough to create non-refractive lamellar cuts though ...

[Laser and corneal surgery: pathological anatomy].
Bulletin de la Societe belge d'ophtalmologie, 1998The studies of the effects of different lasers on the cornea have usually been done on animals. These studies show that ultra-violet lasers (Excimer 193 nm, 213 nm) have a pure photo-ablative effect, without distant lesions. The corneal endothelium is always intact as long as the laser beam is acting at a distance of more than 50 microns from the cells.

Setup for femtosecond laser corneal surgery
2004Purpose: The authors present a microsurgery experimental system using Nd: Glass femtosecond laser. It is coupled to a confocal microscopy observation system to investigate intrastromal effects of the femtosecond laser. Methods: The femtosecond laser is a CPA system with a regenerative amplifier delivering pulses at a wavelength of 1.065 µm, with a ...

[Laser and corneal surgery: patient selection].
Bulletin de la Societe belge d'ophtalmologie, 1998The aim of refractive surgery is a good postoperative visual acuity and the satisfaction of the patient. To reach this, a good selection of the patient is important. Each patient has to be evaluated personally and individually at the hand of the next criteria: A complete preoperative examination The motivation and the expectations of each patient The ...
