On fractional Bessel equation and the description of corneal topography [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2012
In this note we apply a modified fractional Bessel differential equation to the problem of describing corneal topography. We find the solution in terms of the power series. This solution has an interesting behavior at infinity which is a generalization of the classical results for modified Bessel function of order 0.

Corneal Transplants and Their Impact [PDF]

open access: yes
A corneal transplant, also called keratoplasty or corneal grafting, is a type of surgery where damaged or diseased corneal tissue is replaced by a healthy donor cornea. The first successful corneal transplant was performed in 1905 by Dr. Eduard Zirm, but

Predicting the outcome of renal transplantation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
ObjectiveRenal transplantation has dramatically improved the survival rate of hemodialysis patients. However, with a growing proportion of marginal organs and improved immunosuppression, it is necessary to verify that the established allocation system ...

Glaucoma and Corneal Transplant Procedures

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmology, 2012
Glaucoma after corneal transplantation is a leading cause of ocular morbidity after penetrating keratoplasty. The incidence reported is highly variable and a number of etiologic factors have been identified.

Topology-based deep-learning segmentation method for deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) surgical guidance using M-mode OCT data [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty (DALK) is a partial-thickness corneal transplant procedure used to treat corneal stromal diseases. A crucial step in this procedure is the precise separation of the deep stroma from Descemet's membrane (DM) using the Big Bubble technique.

Corneal stromal demarcation line after collagen cross-linking in corneal ectatic diseases: a review of the literature [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Collagen cross-linking (CXL) is a relatively new conservative approach for progressive corneal ectasia, which is able to strengthen corneal tissue reforming new covalent bonds.

Minimally Invasive Pterygium Surgery: Sutureless Excision with Amniotic Membrane and Hydrogel Sealant

open access: yesCase Reports in Ophthalmology, 2016
Purpose: To describe a novel technique for sutureless pterygium surgery using ReSure® tissue sealant. Methods: In this retrospective observational case series, we describe a modified procedure for pterygium excision followed by amniotic membrane ...
