The usual approach to detecting corners in shapes involves first segmenting the shape, then locating the corners in its boundary. We present several techniques for measuring 'cornerity' values in gray-level images, without prior segmentation, so that corners can be detected by thresholding these values.

Concurrent Edge and Corner Detection
2007 IEEE International Conference on Image Processing, 2007To enable fast reliable feature matching or tracking in scenes, features need to be discrete and meaningful, and hence corner detection is often used for this purpose. However, to obtain a higher level description of an image, such as identification of objects, additional information such as edges is required, and more recently detectors have been ...

A practical solution to corner detection
Proceedings of 1st International Conference on Image Processing, 2002A new corner detection algorithm has been developed based on the observation of surface curvature. The algorithm utilizes a linear interpolation scheme for intermediate pixel addressing in the differentiation step, which results in improved accuracy of corner localisation and reduced computational complexity.

A NEW APPROACH TO CORNER DETECTION
2006A new approach for detection of corner points in planar curves is presented in this paper. Detection of corner point is based on calculation of distances from the straight line joining two contour points on two sides of that corner. The presented algorithm is simple to implement, efficient and robust to noise. It performs well on noisy shapes and leads

Corner detection for chain-coded curves
SPIE Proceedings, 1993A corner detection scheme for chain coded curves is proposed that significantly improves on the performance of current algorithms. The proposed scheme measures the number of links to either side of a point that can produce the largest digital straight line.

Corner detection using the MAP technique
Proceedings of 12th International Conference on Pattern Recognition, 2002This paper describes a corner detection method that obtains maximum a posteriori estimates for the corner location in a given sequence of points. The authors model an ideal corner as the intersection of two ideal line segments. The perturbations on the sample points in a given line segment are assumed to be i.i.d Gaussian random variables of zero mean ...

A MORPHOLOGICAL OPERATOR FOR CORNER DETECTION
Pattern Recognition, 1998Abstract This paper presents a new operator for corner detection. This operator uses a variant of the morphological closing operator, which we have called asymmetrical closing. It consists of the successive application of different morphological operators using different structuring elements. Each of these structuring elements used to probe the image

Corner detection in curvilinear dot grouping
Biological Cybernetics, 1988Corners, or discontinuities in orientation, are one of the most salient and useful properties of contours. But how sensitive are we in detecting them, and what does this sensitivity imply about the processes by which corners can be detected. In this paper we address both of these questions, starting with the observation that changing the sampling phase

Corner detection based on estimated eigenvalues
Proceedings of the 23rd Spring Conference on Computer Graphics, 2007Corner detection is important part of many image analysis methods and the result of corner detection is essential for performance of stereo vision, augmented reality, etc. This paper proposes a new method of corner detection based on autocorrelation matrix estimated eigen-values and compares the new method with several frequently used methods The new ...
