Model validation for a noninvasive arterial stenosis detection problem

open access: yes, 2014
Copyright @ 2013 American Institute of Mathematical SciencesA current thrust in medical research is the development of a non-invasive method for detection, localization, and characterization of an arterial stenosis (a blockage or partial blockage in an ...

Predictive value of non-fasting apolipoprotein B/apolipoprotein A-1 ratio combined with systatin C for severe coronary artery stenosis in patients who undergo coronary angiography

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery
Background Non-fasting blood lipid indexes and Cystatin C (CysC) are related to coronary artery stenosis, while the predictive value of their combination is unknown.

Serum endocan levels in non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction patients

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine
BackgroundEndothelial dysfunction and inflammation play a key role in the pathophysiology of acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Endocan has emerged as a novel biomarker reflecting endothelial activation.ObjectiveTo investigate serum endocan levels in ...

Interaction of Intraprocedural Antiplatelets and Intravenous Thrombolysis in Acute Intracranial Stenting: RESISTANT Registry Subanalysis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction/Objective Acute intracranial stenting during endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) for ischemic stroke requires intraprocedural antiplatelet therapy (APT) to maintain patency. However, the hemorrhagic risk of combining APT with intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) remains uncertain.

Coronary angioplasty in iatrogenic coronary artery stenosis

open access: yesThe Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 1983
Iatrogenic coronary artery stenosis as a serious complication of aortic valve procedures is a difficult condition to solve. We present a case in which both ostia were involved. As the patient refused reoperation, percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) was used.

Optimization of Magnetic Milli‐Spinner for Robotic Endovascular Intervention

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work presents the design optimization of a multifunctional magnetic milli‐spinner for high‐speed propulsion and efficient clot debulking. The optimized design achieves an ultrafast swimming velocity of 55 cm/s (≈175 body lengths/s) in saline water, enabling stable upstream swimming against strong physiological flows and establishing magnetic milli‐

Selective Inhibition of Integrin β3 Topology Provides a Safer Antithrombotic Strategy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Current integrin αIIbβ3 inhibitors effectively reduce thrombosis but also increase bleeding risk. During thrombosis, high shear blood flow can directly activate the integrin αIIbβ3 via a distinct topological change in the β3 transmembrane domain, independent of hemostatic platelet signaling.

Interdisciplinary three-step strategy to treat aortic stenosis and coronary artery disease in a patient with end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

open access: yes, 2012
Background: Valvular aortic stenosis is a common disease in the elderly, often in multimorbid patients. It is often associated with coronary artery disease and peripheral artery disease.

Transcatheter versus surgical aortic-valve replacement in high-risk patients. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
BACKGROUND: The use of transcatheter aortic-valve replacement has been shown to reduce mortality among high-risk patients with aortic stenosis who are not candidates for surgical replacement.
