Modeling the Transport of Solar Energetic Particles in a Corotating Interaction Region

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present a new three-dimensional (3D) magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) model and a new 3D energetic particle transport (EPT) model. The 3D MHD model numerically solves the ideal MHD equations using the relaxing total variation diminishing scheme.

MHD-simulation of corotating interaction regions in the heliosphere using different boundary conditions and codes

open access: yesSolar-Terrestrial Physics
The paper presents the results of MHD modeling of corotating interaction regions (CIRs) at distances of 0.1 AU from the Sun (inner boundary) to much larger distances (20–30 AU) in two variants in which the magnetic field on the photosphere (1) is ...

Monte Carlo Simulations of Polarimetric and Light Variability From Corotating Interaction Regions in Hot Stellar Winds

open access: yes, 2019
We use a 3D Monte Carlo radiative transfer code to study the polarimetric and photometric variability from stationary corotating interaction regions (CIR) in the wind of massive stars. Our CIRs are approximated by Archimedean spirals of higher (or lower)

Extreme Geomagnetic Storm on the Early Earth Induced by Corotating Interaction Regions from the Young Sun

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Recent multiwavelength observations of young solar analogs suggest that the young Sun in the first 600 Myr was a magnetically active star that produced an X-ray and extreme-UV bright corona, fast, massive stellar wind, and energetic eruptive events ...

Suprathermal helium in corotating interaction regions: combined observations from SOHO/CELIAS/STOF and ACE/SWICS

open access: yes, 2017
Context. Energetic particle enhancements that are associated with corotating interaction regions (CIRs) are typically believed to arise from the sunward propagation of particles that are accelerated by CIR-driven shocks beyond 1 AU.

Solar Orbiter survey of inner heliosphere low energy ions (greater than ∼100 keV/nucleon), 2020–2025

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Context. The Solar Orbiter spacecraft cruised in the inner heliosphere from April 2020 to December 2025, moving between ∼0.3–1.0 au radial distance. The Energetic Particle Detector (EPD) suite operated continuously during this period. Aims.
