Corpos violados, corpos esquecidos

open access: yesRevista Concinnitas, 2020

Acclimatization length and post‐release spatial cohesion in translocated Griffon Vultures (Gyps fulvus)

open access: yesIbis, EarlyView.
Translocations are often used in the conservation of large raptors, including Old World vultures. Different release methods are usually assessed by comparing the movement patterns and survival of released individuals. However, these approaches fail to capture the gregarious behaviour of many vulture species.

Weather Conditions Are Systematically Associated With Long‐Range Nonroutine Movements in a Large Scavenger

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 4, April 2026.
As vultures rely on soaring flight, the interplay of solar radiation, as well as wind direction and strength, is crucial for both short‐ and long‐range movements. Under very weak wind conditions, Griffon Vultures restricted their movements in the areas around the colony, as exploring areas at the borders of their home range is more demanding ...

How much sampling is enough? Four decades of understorey bird mist‐netting across Amazonia define the minimum effort to uncover species assemblage structure

open access: yesIbis, Volume 168, Issue 2, Page 571-587, April 2026.
Mist‐net sampling comprises a key methodological component of assemblage‐wide avifaunal studies, particularly in the understorey of closed‐canopy tropical forests. To investigate mist‐net bird captures and species assemblage structure, we compiled data from 312 sites across the Pan‐Amazon.

Through a comparative analysis of interviews with prominent geneticist Francisco M. Salzano and technician Girley V. Simões, who worked with him for most of his career, this study explores the narrative strategies each ...

Testing the size‐grain hypothesis in a generalist predator: The case of an ant species in the Brazilian savannah

open access: yesJournal of Zoology, Volume 328, Issue 3, Page 234-247, March 2026.
In our recent study, we examined whether ants in the Brazilian Cerrado follow the “grain‐size hypothesis,” which proposes that larger ants should have proportionally longer legs to move efficiently across different environments. We used Ectatomma permagnum, a common predatory ant in the Cerrado, measuring hundreds of individuals collected from various ...
