Training Psychiatry Residents at Correctional Facilities
Academic Psychiatry, 2014To the Editor: We read the recently published article “General Psychiatric Residents and Corrections: Moving Forensic Education Beyond the Classroom” [1] with great interest. As the author elegantly puts it, there is an epidemic of psychiatric disorders in correctional facilities.

Training and Employment for Correctional Populations
Contexts, 2021Education and employment are both moderate risk factors for recidivism. There is a well-documented relationship between low educational achievement and antisocial behaviors. Education programming in correctional facilities is crucial for improving the educational attainment of incarcerated and re-integrating populations.

Error-correcting training for phoneme spotting
[Proceedings] ICASSP-92: 1992 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 1992Error-correcting training is extended to spotting algorithms. An error measure for spotting tasks is defined, and the derivatives of that error with respect to the parameters of the spotter are derived. The derivatives are computed by modifying the backward pass of the forward-backward algorithm.

Identifying and Correcting Mislabeled Training Instances
Future Generation Communication and Networking (FGCN 2007), 2007In order to form a good generalization from a set of training instances, a clean training dataset is important. Unfortunately, real world data is never as perfect as we would like it to be and can often suffered from corruptions. In this paper, a new approach is proposed to identify and correct mislabeled training instances.

Traditionally, learning algorithms and pattern recognition methods have been sorted into two broad groups: supervised and unsupervised (predictive and informative in Data Mining terminology) whether training data is available or not. Supervised classifier design is based on the information supplied by a training sample (TS): a set of training patterns,

Narrative and reflection: training in a correctional facility
International Review of Psychiatry, 2016This commentary describes the author's experience working at two separate detention centres during her fellowship. She initially describes her experience performing forensic evaluations. The terms 'competency to stand trial' and 'criminal responsibility' are defined.

Corrected tandem features for acoustic model training
2008 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing, 2008This paper describes a simple method for significantly improving tandem features used to train acoustic models for large-vocabulary speech recognition. The linear activations at the outputs of an MLP classifier were modified according to known reference labels: where necessary, the activation of the output unit corresponding to the correct phone label ...

Corrective training of hidden control neural network
Proceedings of ICNN'95 - International Conference on Neural Networks, 2002A corrective training algorithm for hidden control neural network (HCNN) is proposed in this paper with application to the isolated spoken Korean digit recognition. The proposed algorithm tries to heuristically minimize the number of recognition errors, which improves the discriminatory power of the conventional HCNN-based speech recognizers ...

Most depictions of the justice system suggest an environment that is strictly punitive. However, Community Corrections, as the last step before individuals reenter their community, is uniquely situated to be responsible for building agency in and actively communicating with those who have been incarcerated.
