Apochromatic optical correlation

Optics Letters, 2000
Optical correlation, or matched filtering, can now be applied more widely than before, because the light is now allowed to be totally incoherent, spatially and spectrally. Two such correlators were demonstrated recently. Their state of chromatic correction can be called achromatic, since the scaling error has two zero crossings within the visible range

Optical projection correlations

Applied Optics, 1988
The correlation of several 1-D projections of a 2-D image are considered for pattern recognition. A theoretical analysis and SNR comparison to 2-D correlations are provided with successful simulated results that show that the use of two or three 1-D correlations can identify and discriminate the 26 characters in the alphabet.

Differentiating optical correlator

Optics Letters, 1995
We introduce a new filter for an optical correlator that produces the spatial derivative of the optical correlation between an input object and a reference object. The derivative signal has a dark spot at the center of the correlation output. The width of this dark spot is narrower than the width of the conventional correlator bright spot and provides ...

Moiré optical spatial correlator

Optics Letters, 1984
A new optical method to obtain the spatial-correlation integral of moiré maps is described and demonstrated. This method permits the direct and quantitative determination of the optical spatial correlation between two objects. The method can be applied to any optical quantity mapped by any moiré technique.
