Mapping erosion-corrosion of carbon steel in oil exploration conditions : some new approaches to characterizing mechanisms and synergies

open access: yes, 2010
Erosion by solid particles in oil/water slurries is a technologically important area. In such conditions, it is necessary to distinguish between the effects of the sand, aqueous environment, and the oil.

The Effect of Iron Addition on the Dry Sliding Wear and Corrosion Behavior of Cu Al Ni Shape Memory Alloy [PDF]

open access: yesEngineering and Technology Journal, 2010
In this paper, dry sliding wear and corrosion behavior of Cu + 13wt% Al + 3.8 wt% Ni was prepared by powder metallurgy. Dry sliding wear has been studied based on pin on disk at constant velocity and constant sliding distance .Corrosion behavior in 5 wt%

Investigation of corrosion behavior, tensile and cyclic fracture mechanism of EH36 steel welded joints

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
This work systematically revealed the static-dynamic corrosion failure behavior of EH36 joints under air, simulated seawater and cathodic protection in seawater. The result indicated that the seawater environment affected tensile performance slightly but

Towards Defect Phase Diagrams: From Research Data Management to Automated Workflows

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A research data management infrastructure is presented for the systematic integration of heterogeneous experimental and simulation data required for defect phase diagrams. The approach combines openBIS with a companion application for large‐object storage, automated metadata extraction, provenance tracking and federated data access, thereby supporting ...

Flexible liners for corrosion protection of pipelines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Flexible plastic liners are sometimes installed into new and existing oil and gas pipelines to prevent corrosion of the pipe wall. A practical difficulty of this method is that the plastic liners are permeable to gases, which can collect and form an ...

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy Investigation of Alloy Inconel 718 in Molten Salts at High Temperature

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2011
The corrosion behavior in molten salts of Inconel 718 (IN 718) superalloy was investigated by Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS). The corrosion test temperatures used were salt melting points of Na2SO4, 80V2O5-20Na2SO4, NaVO3 and natural ash ...

Solid‐State Diffusion and Intermetallic Phase Formation in Roll‐Bonded Mg–Zn Composites With Kirigami‐Patterned Inlay

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

Corrosion Behavior and Susceptibility to Stress Corrosion Cracking of Leaded and Lead-Free Brasses in Simulated Drinking Water

open access: yes, 2021
Duplex α + β’ brasses are widely used in drinking water distribution systems for tube fittings, valves, and ancillaries because they are low cost, easy to fabricate, and exhibit high mechanical strength. However, depending on application
