Green Corrosion Inhibition

2022
Corrosion affects every industry in which metal is involved, from manufacturing machinery to transport pipelines, and it is estimated to cost the global economy trillions of dollars per year. Many of the traditional methods for inhibiting corrosion are highly toxic (such as hexavalent chromium) or do not degrade readily in the environment (such as ...

Synergism in corrosion inhibition

Surface Technology, 1979
Abstract The synergism observed with two commercial corrosion inhibitors has been investigated using the faradaic impedance technique. The data show that the efficiency of single inhibiting compounds can be significantly lower than that of simple mixtures, and that the ratios employed are critical.

Inhibiting the corrosion of aluminium

Anti-Corrosion Methods and Materials, 1964
n‐butylamine is a fairly satisfactory inhibitor for the corrosion of aluminium‐manganese alloy in hydrochloric acid solutions. Polarisation studies indicate that the anode polarisation is negligible, whereas the cathode polarisation is appreciable and is increased by the inhibitor. The Tafel plot holds good in this case. The dissolution of the metal is

Corrosion Inhibition by Phenanthrolines

CORROSION 1988, 1988
Abstract Phenanthrolines are primarily electron donors or cathodic inhibitors as they bond with surface metal atoms (ions) to form complexes. 1, 10-Phenanthroline and two of its derivatives were studied as corrosion inhibitors of Al 7075-T6 alloy and 1020 carbon steel.

Inhibiting metal corrosion

Metal Finishing, 2008
Summary Corrosion may be costly or catastrophic, but it should not be a necessary evil. Cost savings can be obtained by reducing part rejects through use of inhibition practices. Elimination or control of the corrosion process will prevent part failure that otherwise could have catastrophic effects.

Ion Spectroscopy: Applications in Corrosion and Corrosion Inhibition

CORROSION 1991, 1991
Abstract Ion spectroscopies have a significant role to play in corrosion and corrosion inhibition research. However, even the the most commonly practiced ion spectroscopies of low energy ion scattering (ISS) and secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) are not being exploited to anywhere near their potential.

Inhibition of Pitting Corrosion

CORROSION 1989, 1989
Abstract The present state of knowledge in the field of inhibition of pitting is critically assessed and illustrated by selected examples taken from world literature and personal experience. Especial attention is paid to the following two decisive factors: -passivity, which is responsible for pitting (crevice) corrosion when locally ...

The Mechanism of Corrosion Inhibition and Transition to Underdeposit Corrosion

CORROSION 1987, 1987
Abstract Corrosion inhibition of carbon steel by 2-phosphono-butane-l,2,4-tricarboxylic acid is based on the formation of an inhibiting film. Changes in the water composition in contact with this film during formation influence its growth rate and thickness.
