Pretreatment with a β-Cyclodextrin-Corrosion Inhibitor Complex Stops an Initiated Corrosion Process on Zinc [PDF]
Metal pretreatment is typically the first step in a reliable corrosion protection system. This work explores the incorporation of complexes between the cyclic oligosaccharide β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) and the molecular organic corrosion inhibitor 2-mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT) into an oxide-based pretreatment layer on metallic zinc. The layers were produced

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

An Investigation on Corrosion and Stress Corrosion Cracking initiation of a Ferritic Stainless Steel in a Tertiary Amine Solution [PDF]
The present study focused on stress corrosion cracking (SCC) and corrosion behavior of ferritic stainless steel (grade 430) in activated methyl diethanolamine (aMDEA) solution, which is classified as a tertiary amine.

Probabilistic corrosion time initiation modelling in reinforced concrete structures using the BEM
The reinforcement’s depassivation in reinforced concrete structures occurs when the chloride concentration at the reinforcement’s interface reaches the threshold content.

Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Modeling the corrosion initiation time of slag concrete using the artificial neural network
This paper focuses on the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) as an alternative approach to simulate the corrosion initiation time of slag concrete obtained from the error function solution to Fick’s second law of diffusion.

Hydrogen‐Assisted Fracture of Iron‐Based Fe–Ni–Al Alloys
Principal relations and fracture mechanisms of single‐phase and precipitate‐strengthened Fe–Ni–Al alloys subjected to prior electrochemical hydrogen charging are identified. The mechanisms of hydrogen effect on strength and microhardness are discussed, including hydrogen‐induced increase in microhardness and the role of hydrogen in fracture behavior ...
