Fatigue Strength of Weathering Steel

open access: yesMedžiagotyra, 2012
Fatigue behaviour of Atmofix 52 steel (comparable to COR-TENâ steel) exposed to atmospheric corrosion for 20 years was investigated. S-N curves for load symmetrical cycling and cycling with stress ratio R = 0 were determined on specimens detracted from a

Studying the Passivity and Breakdown of Duplex Stainless Steels at Micrometer and Nanometer Scales – The Influence of Microstructure

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials, 2020
Duplex stainless steels (DSSs) consist of ferrite and austenite phases with approximately equal volume fraction. They exhibit combined superior mechanical strength and corrosion resistance, therefore are increasingly used in various applications. However,

Influence of Test Temperature and Test Frequency on Fatigue Life of Aluminum Alloy EN AW‐2618A

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of test temperature and test frequency on the fatigue life of EN AW‐2618A is investigated. High‐cycle fatigue tests are performed at different test temperatures and frequencies on the 1000 h/230°C overaged state. Both test parameters reduce fatigue life due to time‐dependent damage mechanisms.

Durability method on corrosion fatigue performance of AH 32 steel

open access: yesFracture and Structural Integrity, 2019
A durability method in view of cathodic protection is proposed to improve the corrosion fatigue resistance of AH 32 steel in seawater. By aid of corrosion fatigue tests, the effects of thermal spraying Zn (zinc) and Cr (chromium) coating corrosion ...

Role of MnS in the intergranular corrosion and depassivation of sensitized Type 304 stainless steel

open access: yesnpj Materials Degradation
During polarization in 1 M NaCl (pH 5.4), intergranular corrosion of sensitized re-sulfurized Type 304 stainless steel occurred after pit initiation at MnS inclusions.

The Initiation Characteristics of Corrosion Fatigue Crack in 18Ni (250) Steel

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Maraging steel is the material of deep sea pressure equipment. The characteristics of corrosion fatigue crack initiation in 18Ni (250) were investigated by performing a tensile fatigue test under different loading conditions.

Corrosion Risk of Reinforced Concrete Structure Arising from Internal and External Chloride

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2018
The corrosion risk of internal chloride and external chloride from three different exposure conditions was evaluated. The initiation of corrosion was detected by monitoring the galvanic current between cathode metal and embedded steel.

Direct evidence of initial pitting corrosion

open access: yesElectrochemistry Communications, 2008
Abstract The chloride ion (Cl − ) is known as an aggressive species in the aqueous solutions that adsorbs to the imperfect sites on the metal surfaces, such as defects, impurities and second-phase particles. This adsorption process could change the chemical composition and properties, such as ion conductivity, of the passive film.

Recycling of NiTi Shape Memory Alloys: Fundamental and Technological Aspects of a Vacuum Induction Melting Processing Route

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The present study investigates recycling of NiTi shape memory alloys via vacuum induction melting. An ingot was synthesized from elemental Ni and Ti and subjected to three subsequent remelting cycles. Remelting increases process durations and impurity levels and adversely affects microstructures and functional properties.
