Influence of citric acid passivation treatment on the marine atmospheric corrosion resistance of L80-13Cr stainless steel

open access: yesDiscover Applied Sciences
In offshore oil and gas extraction, 13Cr stainless steel is commonly used for manufacturing downhole tools, which is susceptible to corrosion in marine atmospheric storage environments.

Influence of Test Temperature and Test Frequency on Fatigue Life of Aluminum Alloy EN AW‐2618A

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of test temperature and test frequency on the fatigue life of EN AW‐2618A is investigated. High‐cycle fatigue tests are performed at different test temperatures and frequencies on the 1000 h/230°C overaged state. Both test parameters reduce fatigue life due to time‐dependent damage mechanisms.

Corrosion resistance of galvanized steel in concrete: effect of wet-dry cycles in chloride solution after carbonation process

open access: yes, 2013
The effect of chloride ions on corrosion resistance of galvanized steel in carbonated concrete was investigated. Galvanized steel sheets were embedded in cubic concrete specimens manufactured with a 52.5 R Portland cement; after curing in atmosphere for ...

Some comments on mapping the combined effects of slurry concentration, impact velocity and electrochemical potential on the erosion–corrosion of WC/Co–Cr coatings

open access: yes, 2008
Materials exposed to aqueous slurry environments must not only resist the impact of solid particles and the flowing environment but also the degradation caused by electrochemical corrosion.

Investigation into boiler corrosion on the historic vessel SL Dolly. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
When SL Dolly was recovered from Ullswater after being submerged for 67 years, the wrought iron boiler was found to have surprisingly little corrosion.

Recycling of NiTi Shape Memory Alloys: Fundamental and Technological Aspects of a Vacuum Induction Melting Processing Route

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The present study investigates recycling of NiTi shape memory alloys via vacuum induction melting. An ingot was synthesized from elemental Ni and Ti and subjected to three subsequent remelting cycles. Remelting increases process durations and impurity levels and adversely affects microstructures and functional properties.

Electrochemical characterisation of porosity and corrosion resistance in electrodeposited metal coatings

open access: yes, 2008
Electrochemical techniques for the assessment of porosity in electrodeposited metal coatings are reviewed. The determination of porosity and corrosion, resistance is illustrated by electrochemical data from three coating/substrate systems namely ...

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.
