The mechanical behaviour of corrugated-core sandwich panels

Composites Part B: Engineering, 2013
A series of experimental investigations and numerical analyses is presented into the compression response, and subsequent failure modes in corrugated-core sandwich panels based on an aluminium alloy, a glass fibre reinforced plastic (GFRP) and a carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP).

The shear response of lightweight corrugated core structures

Journal of Composite Materials, 2013
A combination of experimental, analytical and numerical techniques is used to characterise the shear response of lightweight corrugations based on glass fibre and carbon fibre reinforced epoxy resins. The corrugations were manufactured via a compression moulding procedure in which composite prepregs are cured between two serrated mould halves.

Crush Behavior of Corrugated Cores Sandwich Panels

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
The out-of-plane quasi-static compressive behavior of four types of corrugated cores (V-type, U-type, X-type and Y-type core) has been investigated by experiment and FE simulations. By transient dynamic finite element analysis code MSC.Dytran numerical simulations were performed for calculating crushing forces, deformation mode and energy absorption ...

The linear stability of a core–annular flow in an asymptotically corrugated tube

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2002
This paper examines the core–annular flow of two immiscible fluids in a straight circular tube with a small corrugation, in the limit where the ratio ε of the mean undisturbed annulus thickness to the mean core radius and the corrugation (characterized by the parameter σ) are both asymptotically small and where the surface tension is small.

Bending properties of composite corrugated plates with different core structures

Proceedings of the 2019 International Conference on Robotics, Intelligent Control and Artificial Intelligence, 2019
Robots have become the mainstream of technological development in the world today, and how to make robots lighter has become a major obstacle to the development of robotics. There are three main ways for lightweight technology: one is the lightweight design of the structure, that is, optimize the size of the components; the second is the lightweight ...

Fabrication and testing of composite corrugated-core sandwich cylinder

Composites Science and Technology, 2018
Abstract To get a strong, stiff and weight efficient cylindrical shell, carbon fiber reinforced corrugated-core sandwich cylinders (CSCs) were designed and made. The corrugated-core is made up of corrugated cylindrical shell and manufactured by mould hot pressing method. Split forming and integral filament winding forming methods were applied to make

Hybrid modes of the passive-core corrugated-waveguide laser

Canadian Journal of Physics, 1976
Coupled-mode theory is employed to obtain the threshold gains for oscillation on hybrid modes of a passive-core corrugated-waveguide laser pumped in a central portion of its length. Methods are developed for calculating intermode coupling coefficients and loss coefficients resulting from diffraction into any order of waveguide corrugations of ...

Buckling Tests for Laser-Welded Single Corrugated Core

Key Engineering Materials, 2018
This study was employed to investigate the buckling effect for a single Vf corrugated core. Brief and simple designing method is developed for UHS sandwich structure. This method is based on simplified calculation of slenderness ratio integrated with FEM simulation.

An equivalent plate model for corrugated-core sandwich panels

Journal of Mechanical Science and Technology, 2015
This paper suggests an equivalent plate model to analyze the mechanical behavior of corrugated-core sandwich panels under tensile and bending loads. A homogenization-based theory based on the equivalent energy method is used to obtain the stiffness matrices of corrugated cores of a sandwich panel.
