Diagnostic accuracy of increased urinary cortisol/cortisone ratio to differentiate ACTH‐dependent Cushing's syndrome

Clinical Endocrinology, 2017
Differential diagnosis between Cushing's Disease (CD) and Ectopic ACTH Syndrome (EAS) may be a pitfall for endocrinologists. The increasing use in clinical practice of chromatography and mass spectrometry improves the measurement of urinary free cortisol

CORTISONE AND PHAGOCYTOSIS

Endocrinology, 1955
AS HAS been pointed out by Thomas (1952, 1953), cortisone has been L demonstrated to reduce the resistance of mammals to bacteria, viruses, fungi, and bacterial toxins. In discussing the various methods whereby cortisone might act to produce these results, the author suggests the conclusion that the effect must be on the reticuloendothelial system (RES)

Effect of Cortisone in Sarcoidosis

New England Journal of Medicine, 1951
ALTHOUGH sarcoidosis is commonly considered a benign condition, it may occasionally be a serious illness, resulting in blindness, respiratory insufficiency or death. In a search for an effective therapeutic agent, many substances have been tried. Fowler's solution and x-ray therapy have been found ineffective.1 More recently, benefit has been reported ...

Early morning salivary cortisol and cortisone, and adrenal responses to a simplified low‐dose short Synacthen test in children with asthma

Clinical Endocrinology, 2014
To examine serum cortisol responses to a simplified low‐dose short Synacthen test (LDSST) in children treated with inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) for asthma and to compare these to early morning salivary cortisol (EMSC) and cortisone (EMSCn) levels.

Salicylates, stress and cortisone

Experientia, 1950

Measurement of cortisol and cortisone in children's hair using ultra performance liquid chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry

, 2013
Objectives: Children's stress research may benefit from the establishment of a standardized and validated methodology to measure cortisol and cortisone in hair, as this biomatrix is non-invasive, easily obtainable and more practicable compared to other ...

Angiogenesis inhibition and tumor regression caused by heparin or a heparin fragment in the presence of cortisone.

Science, 1983
Heparin or a heparin fragment administered with cortisone inhibited angiogenesis, caused regression of large tumor masses, and prevented metastases. Oral administration of heparin resulted in the release of non-anticoagulant heparin fragments in the ...

Cortison und Calciumstoffwechsel

Klinische Wochenschrift, 1959

Cortisone Treatment of Sarcoidosis

Diseases of the Chest, 1954
SUMMARY A case of sarcoidosis with involvement of the eyes, the skin and lungs, treated with cortisone, is presented. Complete resolution of the uveitis and skin nodules occurred. The chest x-ray film revealed marked parenchymal and moderate hilar lymphadenopathy resolution, though complete clearing never was achieved.
